    Slurry Impeller Erosion

dik, I have not seem a failed impeller yet (just started this job two weeks ago) I am told that the blades erode away until the pump is unable to develop the head needed and looses prime. Supposedly there is very little pitting so we do not suspect cavitation as the leading cause of failure.

    Slurry Impeller Erosion

Thanks for the replies. We have tried NiHard and some high chrome castings neither have hepled much. I'm leaning towards jet1749's comments. It does seem that the velocity of the impeller is too high. I don't know what the relationship between erosion and blde velocity, but I suspect it would...

    Slurry Impeller Erosion

We have a 1750 rpm 1600 gpm 314 ft HD horizonatl open impeller slurry pump that is eroding impellers every 300-400 hrs. The slurry is bottom ash from a coal plant. I just started at this company and have yet to seen a failed impeller, but I am told that the fins basically erode away to the...

    Inline Diesel injection information needed

I am looking for some general theory on inline injection pumps. In particular bosch models such as the p7100. Does anyone know where to look? Thanks in advance.

Detecting Broken Rotor Bars using Vibration Analysis

Thanks for tips, I have not used MCSA but I will look into it. I understand that the broken rotor bar will distort the rotors magenetic field and cause a hi 1x, but I do not understand how the ppf is picked up around one 1x. I think my lack of understanding may be in how the fft is performed...

Detecting Broken Rotor Bars using Vibration Analysis

I am looking for a method and explanation to detect broken rotor bars using vibration. Everything I've read indicates to look for Pole pass freq around turning speed or multiples of turning speed. I just don't understand how a broken rotor bar would generate this spectrum. I understand that at...

Is there more to engineering than this.?

Interesting thread....I'm a Junior in ME and I too am having similar thoughts to dhp78 about my first engineering job. I'm a Co-op at a small power company that is in charge of vibration analysis for Predictive Maintenance. Ths job in itself is not pure engineering per say but I do get to tag...

2.5X Freq. on 600hp Induction Motor

Thanks for the replies, The motor is a horizontal motor that is coupled to a coal Mill which drives a large worm gear. The worm gear in turn drives a bull gear, there really is not a possiblity for a 2.47X freq. within this gear drive. Also vibration data is taken throughout the worm gear and...

2.5X Freq. on 600hp Induction Motor

I don't know if this is the approriate forum, but I'm having a vibration problem on an older Fairbanks Morse Mill Motor. It is an 8 pole 600hp motor that turns at 888rpm. The dominant vibration on the spectrum is present only in the axial direction and is around .3in/s at 2200cpm. This...

Analyzing CI Engines with DataPac 1500

I'm looking for any input at all on analyzing internal combustion engines with any type of vibration analysis. I appreciate any thoughts on this subject. Thanks -Nick

Analyzing CI Engines with DataPac 1500

I'm attempting to start a condition monitoring program for some backup diesel generators and pumps in our plant. The diesels are all basic inline 6's in the 300hp range @ about 1600 rpm. We currently use a datapac 1500 for our vibration route on the attached pumps. I have been taking spectral...
