Good morning,
Has anyone worked with a plastic rapid-prototyping company that can quickly make acrylic lenses? The ability to make refractive optics using STL appears limited, due to the "step-wise" structure of an STL part. Neverthless, I would like to find a company with this capability...
Mcgyvr,
Point taken. Hardware selection is difficult without specifications. However, in this case, I chose to leave the specifications open, because I was willing to modify my design to accommodate the available DC jacks.
Some advice to you, for the sake of your career:
Although you make a...
Howdy All,
I'm trying to find a crossover for the Wattstopper FSP-211 occupancy sensor. This is a real Cadillac occupancy sensor - remotely programmable ramp up/down of light level, high/low brightness levels, daylight harvesting threshold, wet-location-rated, etc. I'm trying to find a...
Howdy All,
I'm having a hell of a time finding off-the-shelf, pre-wired, panel-mounted, DC power jacks.
It is common to find pre-wired, non-panel-mounted DC power jacks, but not panel-mounted ones. Does anyone know any sources?
Thank you
Howdy all,
I am running a SolidWorks Simulation static stress analysis on an assembly, and I'm having a ridiculous problem.
I must bond a simple cylindrical feature into a simple hole feature of exactly the same diameter. However, during the simulation, the two repeatedly fail to bond. The...
DaveMinter,
There is a formula that relates shear modulus to elastic modulus, i.e. the elastic behavior of a material.
HOWEVER, there is NO general formula relating the ULTIMATE (fracture) strengths in tension, compresion, and shear. To find the shear strength of concrete, one must carefully...
Howdy all,
I'm looking into the comparative cost of structural columns made from steel pipe vs. reinforced concrete. I'm guessing that reinforced concrete columns are cheaper, since that's how they construct freeway overpass columns. However, it would be great to have some approximate numbers...
Howdy all,
I'm considering substituting a PVC foam tape in place of a urethane foam tape. The issue is the risk of plasticizer migration from the PVC foam to the adjacent substrate. Question: do you think that the foam tape's acrylic PSA would act as a plasticizer barrier, which would block...
If you live in California, Google "CalMAX", the California Materials Exchange.
Separating composites, in order to recycle their constituent materials, is difficult. There is a large market for post-consumer recycled polyethylene, although you won't make any money doing it.
I have seen...
Problem solved.
It was simply that my Initial Mesh settings (the default ones chosen by FloWorks) were too coarse. When I manually selected the gap size and wall thickness values, everything ran fine. You would THINK that FloWorks would choose default values that were appropriate.
Howdy all,
In Floworks, I am seeing fluid streamlines passing, erroneously, right through a solid assembly.
I am running a Floworks analysis of fluid flow over the exterior of an assembly. I ran several analyses very successfully. BUT, when I made a small change to the assembly (and had...
Howdy all,
I'm trying to find tabular values, or an equation, of the moment coefficient for a thick plate subjected to wind forces, at various angles of attack. I suspect that the "thin plate airfoil" equations will not work, because my plate is pretty thick relative to its chord and span...
Howdy all,
I have had consistent difficult in achieving proper meshing of thin shell assemblies in COSMOS. When I run the model, I get a message saying that there are "insufficient constraints", meaning that the parts of the assembly are not bonded together, at least as COSMOS is concerned...
Howdy all,
I have an Assembly with parts have fail to bond during FEA:
I have Cosmos Professional 2006. I have built an Assembly from Parts. Each Part is made from zero-thickness surfaces. I assembled the pieces, mated them, and ran a linear statics analysis. Some of the pieces fell away...
Howdy all,
I am considering spec'ing a flexible PVC foam with an acrylic pressure-sensitive adhesive backing. This material would be stuck down to a plasticizer-sensitive substrate. Do you think that the plasticizers in the PVC foam could migrate through the PSA and harm the substrate?
I've...
