does anybody have experience in operating LO-Cat plants? looking for feedback on potential operational or corrosion problems, any exotic materials which need to be used, special piping set ups with rodding tees?
Metalsinc. If you sent the file to Yahoo and it was returned would you mind re-sending, ...my Yahoo address had lapsed, I have reactivated it...thks Aybee
Rich2001...handy link good stuff in there

does anybody have a formula for weld cooling time to prevent cracking in carbon steel welds ..ie 800-500degree temperature drop time? I got one but I think I set it up incorrectly into my spreadsheet as it gives wierd times
Wahlbanger most Australia States require Design Verification and 3rd Party Inspection if AS4343/AS3920.1 calls up the vessel or pipe as hazardous, the degree of Hazard determines the need or otherwise of the Verification and Inspection...Aybee.
carthago.. there are thickness detection "crawlers" which can traverse tank floors and sides of tanks which will take UT readings as they go store them and can provide a read out on a PC which shows the floor area thickness in colour variations as a function of the thickness read. These...
agree with all the other guys have said, have you considered a single piece forging for the flange with cylindrical shell sections for attachement to head and to shell.that way you can get good shell/head to flange section welds , lower stresses at the flange to shell attachment..Aybee
agree Metegr. all these repairs have been on condensate steam low pressure no low alloy, creep temps etc but the type of PIA job than can shutdown a plant due to the short term economics of not adding in a few isolation valves on headers ...no heroics ..Aybee
so it looks like I was less wrong than I thought re Codes and Standards for In service plant. to me In Service is pressure equipment after it has been fabricated , installed and put into service...but it would not be the first time i had organised repairs on plant which is operating..steam lines...
going way back up to the first question....hang in there ASME are preparing a raft of new codes for repairs to in- service equipment..dont know the publication dates though..covers welding to thinned piping, overlay build ups, sleeving of thinned pipe ..all that sort of stuff Aybee
JonD 71 please tell us plate thickness, contents, ? sound like it might be fatigue from nozzle loadings ? is the 400c constant or cold/hot/cold etc hard to tell whats wrong from what you have told us.If the design pressure is 30kPa on 300 dia nozzle it does not seem to have needed reinforcing...
