"a redesign of a weld neck flange"
Is there a stated goal of the redesign?
Is this a specialized flange for use on a custom project?
Is the patient a commercial weld neck flange? If so they are built to Standards that make them dead reliable for rated service, and toleranced for...
looks pretty powerful, but to the point setting it up is too complicated for this old dog.

HP/Agilent Application Note AN 243-1 provides a high level overview of rotating machinery diagnostics.
Are you already beyond that point?
I suggest...
I'm curious about the purpose of adding weight to end(s) of hydraulic cylinder.

Maybe make it self retracting or self extending, if the shaft is vertical?
That's all I've come up with so far.
The sliding surfaces of clutch components ( also brake rotors and even brake drums) can suffer severe localized heating and frictional wear.

The late, great J. O. Almen wrote a wonderful article for Metal Progress in 1943 entitled...
"Never torque, use elongation"
I wonder what r6155 would do if confronted with a flat tire and needs to install the spare tire.

angle torque is pretty common on rod, main and head bolts on modern cars.
What up-to-date qualifications, if any, do your welders have?

"Cold lap" is a constant major concern.
"One bad characteristic, however, is that the quick freeze puddle has a tendency to "cold lap" when not carefully deposited with...
" 1/2"dia stainless steel tube x 40" span in a clamped-pinned configuration that fails in fatigue after 2 years operation. "
Got pictures of the failure ?
What is the tube being asked to do for 2 years ?
The Mikuni carburetor tuning manual from the 1970s got right to the point.
Selection of the main jet.
First ,do the following on a flat road.
(1) Select the largest main jet which affords the maximum revolutions per minute (the maximum speed).
Use aluminum "pins" ?
Then after the edges are welded, finish either with autogenous welding the ends of the pin(s) and holes or use pins slightly shorter than the assembly thickness to permit real "plug welds."
Even with pins installed I think the halves of the welded assembly will likely...
I wonder what a cutting edge world class 3500 hp electric tug would look like.
The solar panels might have a vaguely familiar look.

"GE spec's installation torque has no mention of preload/axial load at all, the protrusion is what defines the "installed" state for the max installation torque."
I suggest proceeding carefully.
I'd interpret protrusion as the number of screw/bolt threads visible beyond the nut.
"Producing a...
By inspection I always wondered what arched tower braces, attached with offset thin plate brackets could really offer.
In comparison, the 1960s Shelby Mustang braces to the firewall looked to me to provide a 10X stiffer load path...
How long was the shaft in service?
I'm still unclear whether the fracture surface propagated from a groove machined in the shaft.
Any micromotion of the shaft within the bearing at the edge near the shaft shoulder would cause fretting. The endurance strength of a fretted surface is mighty low...
It has only been a couple of days, but OP ain't been back since Sept 23, the day of his original post.
I do not understand the axis of rotation ( among other things). And as a result, also not the tendency for "the size of the groove" to "change during rotation."
//Maybe// if the groove was...
"Grade 8.8 bolts are heat treated by quenching and tempering in accordance with the DIN 933 grade 8.8 standard.
This process involves:
- Heating the steel to around 870°C, where it transforms into a γ-austenite crystalline structure
- Rapidly cooling the steel, which transforms the austenite...
Like MFGENGGEAR said-
Contact stress
Contact wear
Beam strength (deflection)
...............
I think focussing on deflection with the goal of limiting it to "only be a few % of the height of the teeth" might be overlooking potentially serious problems elsewhere, especially if the rpm and tooth...
My 2013 Mazda CX-5 FWD with manual transmission loves to buck at small throttle openings and low rpm in first gear.
It also spins its tires easily at pretty modest 1st gear starting acceleration.
That has been a little surprising with the front wheel biased weight distribution.
I'm...
