Symmetric to Centerline note is given to below drawing attached, need to understand how manufacturer will punch the holes at what tolerance.

put a datum flag on .75 +/- .01. make the holes in position to that datum by whatever tolerance you want them to do.

Position Tolerance on placed objects on a weldment

Their are 6 gussets equally spaced and symmetric to the width of the weldment. Since symmetry is no longer available i have used Position. I have attached a position tolerance to the thickness of the gusset and have the spacing of those gussets as a basic dimension thats related to [A|C|B]...

Position Tolerance on placed objects on a weldment

the .03 was a carry over from something else. the position for the gussets would be .25(not .03). hole position is .03 and should be easily achieveable. in the latest attached, what colored box would be the preferred place for a FCF showing symmetry. I'm guessing the blue box?

Position Tolerance on placed objects on a weldment

are any of the colored boxes the correct way of showing this? Thanks

Position Tolerance on placed objects on a weldment

i can't follow this in my head. the overall width i already have set as a datum. i have a basic dimension spacing the gussets. i have a FCF of position pointing to the gusset. Should the FCF be pointing to the witness line instead of the gusset to imply symmetry to Datum B(overall width?)...

Position Tolerance on placed objects on a weldment

i can't visualize in this on a drawing. can you give me a quick illustration? i'm sorry if thats asking for too much.

Position Tolerance on placed objects on a weldment

I get all that. But my particular question is about the gusset location FCF and not so much the holes. The holes are straightforward. I just want to communicate the placement of the gussets to be symmetric to FoS datum B

Position Tolerance on placed objects on a weldment

This is my profile view. A is where its being bolted down to another piece of equipment. the parallel surface is where i'm bolting in some other items but have some adjustment ability there. Side surface of my 3/4" plate was bigger than the 1/4" plat(may or may not be 1/4" min when talking...

Position Tolerance on placed objects on a weldment

so as i understand: There's no way to symmetrically control the locations of placed objects on a weldment that matches y14.5?

Position Tolerance on placed objects on a weldment

Is there a preferred/legal way to position the gussets symmetrically with clear intent?

Position Tolerance on placed objects on a weldment

The gussets are just support. its over 12ft long and need to support some overhanging load. The one set of flagne holes bolts it to the machine. the other set of holes(helicoils) are for bolting on some other equipment to it. Its important that this large weldment can fit inside its envelope...

Position Tolerance on placed objects on a weldment

Why does the position FCF apply to the width of the gusset and not to just simply the placement of the gusset? Whether the gusset is dimensioned from a face or CL of gusset doesn't matter to me. Does it matter when placing a position tolerance on the object? You're right about manufacturing of...

Position Tolerance on placed objects on a weldment

The gusset dimension should be from center to center of gusset for the 5x 24.00 dimension? Do i need the [144"] dimension or can that drop since the pattern of gussets is implied symmetric to B through the FCF? But the FCF can only be applied to the centerline of the gusset? I think i...

Position Tolerance on placed objects on a weldment

B is attached to the 147.625" dimension, which i wouldnt' consider small(over 12ft long)... B being on a FoS is giving me a centerplane to work from. There's no datum on the far face. The bottom surface is A(the gusset is perp to that surface) and C is as shown. Its a very long and large...

Position Tolerance on placed objects on a weldment

Can i use Position to locate an object on a weldment? See attached image. A is the bottom perpendicular surface. My intent is to have all of my hole patterns and gussets symmetric to weldment centerline. I have a 5x 24 basic dimension doing the spacing of the gussets. I also added a 144"...

FoS perp, flat and parallel help

Can you help me with this? What is the perpendicular call out actually doing with the outside surfaces if its not actually giving me perpendicularity to a surface? What is the difference between perp being on the FoS as in Fig 10-59 vs having one side be a datum with a flatness and the otherside...

FoS perp, flat and parallel help

I think that clears some things up in my head for me. Can i have the width be a datum(in this case -C-) and also each surface be their own datum? so the width be C the left surface be D and the right surface be E? I can set D to be perp to B and A I can set E to be parallel to D So Datum C...

FoS perp, flat and parallel help

i saw that post when doing my searching and it really got me thinking(and confused). in this case. the overall width can be +/- .01. So the overall rectangle can be a parallelogram with .01 to the top left of the part and .01 to the bottom right of the part. I would rather keep the overall...

FoS perp, flat and parallel help

I have a big weldment. All sides are to be machined and held flat ~.01"(still working that out). From one long end to the other i was going to hold that dimension as a datum and then hold the rectangular hole pattern to that dimension. Doing it this way i can keep the hole pattern 'symmetric'...
