Designing Blind Flange in PV Elite 26

Hi everyone, i just go through UG-39 again. and guess what i found? Snip from UG-39: The req thickness of the blind changed after i click "evaluate pattern hole" button is because the software did modified eq from UG-34 (as snip above). By clicking this function, software assume the blind...

Designing Blind Flange in PV Elite 26

That was a great point. I think this could be a valid explanation as well. Thanks, LittleInch, for offering a different perspective. After checking with multiple blind size, the blind min thickness increases by about 25%-28% after I click it. The percentage seems to grow with the size — the...

Hi PreVes, I already design it this way. you can refer below. 1) Without click. 2) With click (without any hole detail)

Designing Blind Flange in PV Elite 26

as i mentioned before, the blind did calculated according to ASME VIII UG-34, but when I consider the opening/holes on the blind (by clicking below👇). thickness increased again. This is due to UG-36/UG-39 being considered. However, the thickness should only increase after the hole details are...

yes, it is a custom-made blind.

Designing Blind Flange in PV Elite 26

yeah thats true, but after i click "Evaluate pattern hole", the thickness increase. I think its because of UG-36/UG-39, which evaluate the reinforcement area on the blind (which affected by holes dimension and pitch). But I don't get how the thickness already increased when the hole size...

Designing Blind Flange in PV Elite 26

it was my first time exploring UG-53. but as i read, its more to opening on the shell instead of blind right? and there is this "ligament efficiency". How can i relate it with the formula of req thickness of blind/shell?

Designing Blind Flange in PV Elite 26

Hi PV Elite experts, I would like to ask regarding blind calculation considered in this software. i found that the req thickness for the custom blind differ when the "evaluate uniform pattern hole" was clicked. it become thicker when we click this option. Why does this happen? custom blind...

    Opening on Blind Flange

oh thats new to me. haha. My company also practice using ASME b16.5 and class so on, since our client consistently refers to ANSI, I prefer to use the same terminology to avoid potential confusion. but thank you for this ;), i might telling my client the same thing later :0 haha

    Opening on Blind Flange

if im using UG-34(c)(2) Eq (2) to calc this bolted cover thickness, does this means that the number or size of the opening will not affect the thickness? since the opening dimension were not considered in the formula. Thank you for your insight David.

    Opening on Blind Flange

hi geoff13, can u see this paragraph that i found from Asme interpretation database, what is "additional design calculation" refers to?

    Opening on Blind Flange

Hi all, currently im designing a blind flange (28") for an LPG storage tank based on the asme sect 8 Div 1. The blind flange had two threaded opening, 2" npt and 1-1/4" npt. Based on UG-36, i understand that this size of opening do not required reinforcement calc. Does this mean that i can just...
