I need help finding out who manufactures the quick connect assembly used on keychains like this one:
I don't want to make keychains, I don't need the connection to have the holes drilled for keyrings. I am looking for this type of quick disconnect mechanical coupling device for use on a...
Crucible Specialty Metals is the leading producer of valve steels (I don't work there anymore, so this isn't as much of a sales pitch). Here's the valve steel info page:
http://www.crumetals.com/products/valve.cfm
Talk to someone from their service center, regarding stainless, tell them what...
The "cold air intakes" currently commercially available for this vehicle aren't a true cold air intake, as they pull engine compartment air through a big K&N cone type filter (basically my option 2 in the original post) - but they add an aluminum heat shield. Or they use the same ducting as...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ceramic
I particularly like "Technical ceramics can also be classified into three distinct material categories:
Oxides: Alumina, zirconia
Non-oxides: Carbides, borides, nitrides, silicides
Composites: Particulate reinforced, combinations of oxides and...
Since this is an engineering forum, I'll pose the question this way: Is there more benefit to having a colder charge air source, with a smaller inlet area, or engine compartment temperature air (with some outside air) and a larger inlet area?
Here's the scenario, two modifications to a stock...
Wow, one reply. I guess this really is brand-new technology. Well, thanks metengr, I've already done a Scirus search before posting, but didn't include 'failures' as part of the search terms. Hopefully someone will chime in with some additional info.
Does anyone here have any knowledge of, or know where I can find any information regarding the decomposition of carbon nanotubes (CNT's)?
A quick search found many papers regarding CNT production, and some properties of CNT's, but I'm interested in how, if, and when they fall apart. I know...
Since the "clutch" only applies torque in one direction, as soon as the engine turns over, the starter can just be pulled off. As for the actual connection, I'm guessing it's just some sort of spline.
FWIW, I start my B&S lawn mower engine with my power drill ala the racing starters you speak...
Short answer: you're in a tough spot.
First off, I have to ask why no one realized the furnace chart wasn't moving. This is ~20 hour aging cycle, and from what you stated, the problem occurred early on, which begs the question that nobody looked at the equipment for 20 hours??
Second, you...
Yes you can over-age this material.
Is this machining bar, forging stock, sheet, etc.? What specifications are you working to, and what are the grain size requirements? Did you solution this material, or did you order it in the solution annealed condition, and what was the solution...
PeterCharles,
Based on my work with tool steels, I can say that, although they are related, we never treated hardness and wear resistance in the same manner. So quick answer, with ANY steel, hardness does not equal wear resistance. With that said, please read on.
Typically, the first property...
I understand what a torque stick is: limits the amount of torque applied to a fastener (an "impact-torque wrench").
I understand how they work:
http://www.procutinternational.com/html/torqstik/how_torqstiks.html (good explanation)
Why can torque sticks only be used on pneumatic tools and not...
Well, FWIW, it's been in the upper 50's / low 60's the past few days, and NO RAIN. 31.5 mpg yesterday on the way home. I'm convinced that first off, my driving style has the biggest impact, with believe it or not, rain being second for the reasons rmw stated.
Just want to say thanks for all...
Well, for those that care, here's an update. I called the shop that did the oil change and asked about the heavier weight conventional vs. lighter weight synthetic, with respect to it getting colder here lately. The owner (who used to be the mechanic for 100 years) said he's run the WH 15W-40...

Here's what I have. I in no way guarantee the accuracy of the stated values. Typical properties are listed and should not be used for specification.
Greg,
Outside of not doing what I asked, in your opinion,is there any problem with what they did? Will it cause any adverse effects?
They did knock a significant amount off the normal charge for an oil change (I'd pay more if I bought oil and filter and did it myself) since they screwed up.
Who is your supplier of this NiTi? Did you contact them regarding what you're seeing?
I find it very hard to believe that you're mechanically deforming, and therefore elongating the wire. More likely the heat generated by grinding is inducing one of the phase transformations NiTi is known...
peter6, I've managed to obtain our old data sheets that list chemical, physical, and mechanical properties of Incoloy 840. Are there particular properties you're interested in? If so, what are they and I'll give you them, if you want all of it I have to either scan or type the info in. Let me...
