    Dynamic dust seal

Looking for a "felt-type" seal that would be stationary with a nylon piece somewhat compressed on the seal and cycling back and forth. The main objective of this seal is to keep fine dust from getting past the seal. The seal material needs to be compressed, yet with a very low...

    Long Fiber reinforced materials

I curently have an ABS that is not performing well strength wise, and I am considering going to either a long fiber abs or even a long fiber polyester. The original material I used in this aplication was 33%GFN, and the warpage of this curved plastic part was unbearable. I was told that the...

    Low friction plastic

Ivo, Try Delrin. It's similar to nylon in strength characteristics, and is very wear resistant (used for gears alot) http://www.dupont.com/enggpolymers/english/products/delrin.html

    Low friction plastic

Ivek, In order to answer your question, we would have to know the functionality of the existing nylon piece in order to determine if we could use different types of plastics. What attributes should this piece achieve? Wear Heat Strength Contamination Impact Resistance etc..

    O-Ring Installation

Can anybody send me in the right direction in order to design or purchace a hand tool that will install an o-ring into a bore that is aprox. 1-1/2 inches long to the o-ring groove. The o-ring cannot be intalled by hand due to the small size of the o-ring dia. Thanks

    Torque vs. clamping force

The clamping force of the bolt also has a lot to do with the type of thread you are using (pitch or lead of the thread) and included angle of the thread profile. This calculation (in one form or another)is in probably all machine design textbooks ever written. Friction coefficients are also...

    Aluminum 6061 T4 for 380 prototype??

I'm in the process of prototyping a part that will eventually be made in 380 Die Casting Aluminum. I will do some strength and endurance testing with this material and the best match I have found as far as surface hardness and yield strength is 6061 T4. Nobody seems to have this material...

    Replacement for Thermoset

It is a "flat" base plate that acts as a wear pad for a machine that operates (slides) mainly on wood. Flatness is the most important characteristic, followed by various concentricity call-outs. The warping, and shrinkage is not being controlled by the molder. I realize that the...

    Replacement for Thermoset

I'm looking for a replacement for Durez 31906 Black phenolic. My problem is the lack of dimensional stability, and wear resistance after molding - both of which I have to improve. I'm willing to look at other phenolics, or even other MATERIALS all together. Thanks for any suggestions!

Which 3-D Cad Software is Best?

My Experience only includes 7 years of Pro/E. It is a very powerful tool for large assemblies, and - when used properly - it can eliminate long regeneration time. My suggestion would be to research the various sytems, and have reps from your two top picks come in to benchmark their respective...
