    i have .stl problems

Hello all.. We are running NX6. I need to export a .stl file from NX but I keep getting an error saying I have a negative value in the model. I am clueless what to do. I ran FILE>UTILITIES>PART CLEANUP without success. Is there an answer to my problem. I don't have time for a redo. Thanks in...

Inserting a UDF into a note

I am trying to insert a UDF into a note. The character sizes differ between the note and the UDF. I have searched the online "help" but to no avail. If you can help me out, I'm grateful. Thanks in advance. ted kralovic VisVSA, NX-6, Macbook, iPhone 3GS, Garmin 765T, Garmin Forerunner 405...

    Use of tooling balls

Reading some of the posts in this forum, I believe that I've found a great place to ask a question regarding how to dimension a drawing which utilizes a tooling ball. My companiy's Design Manual tells me to dimension everything to the center of the ball. Yet in my experience, I have always...

    Outline of a Detail View

Quick question: How do I show the view boundary of a rectangular detail view? A circular detail view shows a phamtom-font boundary, whereas a rectangular one shows none. I am running NX-6. Thanks for your reply(s)..tk ted kralovic VisVSA, NX-6, Macbook, iPhone 3GS, Garmin 765T, Garmin...

    Accuracy question

When I use a calculator, 1-.475=.525, every time. Yet, I'm now checking a model (someone elses, but built to exacting standards) in NX, and 1-.475 now equals .52497890521! This has bugged me for years. Is there something in the NX code that has to be updated? This is computer-based modeling. It...

    Tolerances showing up in sketcher

In NX6, whenever I use the sketcher, a tolerance of +/-.010 comes up whatever dimension I am using: horiz, vert, angular, etc. Is this tied to my drafting preferences or have I toggled something on/off? Please advise. thank you. ted kralovic VisVSA, NX-6, Macbook, iPhone 3GS, among others

    a problem sweeping a sketch

Hello.. I am creating a buttress thread using a sketch and sweeping it along a helix. Yet, as shown in the enclosed picture, the space rotates as the helix rotates. this isn't what I had hoped for. (We are looking at a section with no boolean performed. The red indicates interference and shows...

    sketching in NX6

I am sketching in NX6. I am getting a message that my sketch is unconstrained. I see some freedom freedom arrows. When I try to dimension any of them, the whole sketch becomes over-constrained. Is there a setting to show what really needs to be dimensioned, rather than just the freedom arrows...

    section view edges missing

Hello... Using NX6. Taking sections thru my part, and several views have edges of the sectined part missing. the crosshatching is there, but the edges of the part are disappearing. Is there a fix? Have I toggled something on/off? ted kralovic liverpool, ny VisVSA, NX-6

    question regarding screen layout

hi! there's the possibility that i'm thinking computervision here but.. i would like to know if it's possible to have the screen split into 4 (or 6) separate views. i haven't worked ug/nx since v18 and the job i'm working on in nx6 would go a lot smoother if i could see the same features in...

holes equally spaced on a b.c.

hello all.. please refresh my rather overworked memory. is it basic 10X 36 degrees OR 10X basic 36 degrees? in other words, is "10X" basic? thanks to all!

    true position of threaded holes

I know this issue has been covered in the past, but not to the degree that I'm dealing with. The engineers here are adamant in using MMC for the true position of a threaded hole. "The MMC of what?" I ask. "The P.D." is their reply. A typical callout is: .750-10 UNC-2B |TP|DIA .010 M|A|B M|C|...

can a 90 degree feature be used as a datum?

I have a thermal strap, in 2 halves, which straddles a bellows fixture. There is an r51.5 mm feature which provides clearance around the bellows. the (2) halves make up a 180 degree segment, meaning each half is 90 degrees. i am detailing 1 segment, with the other half opposite hand. the drawing...

    trailing zeroes and tolerances

I am in a quandry. I have a part 1660 mm long. My titleblock says, " Tolerance 1 place decimal +/- 1 " Yet, I have a whole number per 1.6.1(b)of Y14.5. Do I put 1660.0 on the drawing? Or leave it 1660? Thank you in advance. teddykaye

what is the standard for female npt depth?

say i need a 1/2" npt in a valve body. this will be used to feed hydraulic fluid into the valve. the material i'm tapping is 1" thk. from machinery's handbook, 1/2" npt has effective ext thread length of .5337, yet an engineer says to drill/tap thru. isn't that rather illogical? how deep is...

    problem generating .hpgl plots

Does anyone have any experience plotting/viewing .hpgl files created from the UG plot queue? My problem comes from having multi-sheet drawings and having to create .hpgl's of each separate sheet. I am trying to find a way to create a multi-sheet .hpgl file, and be able to click on an arrow in...
