Hi I have a question about accele

Hi I have a question about accelerometers. Does anyone know of a company/supplier in the U.K. that supplies 3 axis accelerometers that are wireless? Or even a bespoke unit that operates on radio telemetry? Also a control unit is required which would be required to operate 2 trip signals when a...

    RTD's intrinsically safe

Can RTDs be used as intrinsically safe items without the need for a barrier? We have an RTD in an EExd enclosure and we wish to reuse the rtd with a tank gauge. My question is would the tank gauge need to have barriers fitted to allow the circuit to be intrinsically safe? Thanks

    Exd [ ia ]

We have a transmitter(slg 720) installed in a zone 1. it has a hazardous area rating of Exd[ia] it also has a 4-20ma output. We want to change this signal into enraf bpm so we are installing a converter in a switchroom which is a safe area, this is also rated Exd [ia].my question is does the...

    Vsd restart after shutdown

We have a vsd, When the ESD is activated and reset the drive starts back up again automatically Also the drive starts back up automatically it the stop signal is removed. It was assumed that the drive was looking for a rising pulse and would not start up again until it saw this but this is not...

    bgu design

I have the attached design for BGU's (all in parallel) but I cant work out how to practically wire a 4 core cable between the two BGU's. Can anyone offer some guidance please. Thanks

    Distribution board cable.

We are replacing a single phase lighting DB with a 3 phase DB. We are also replacing the cable that goes from the substation to the DB. This new DB will be used for lighting circuits( we will change existing for LEDs) and we will leave spare ways. My question is how do we size this new cable...

    Lighting design

We have existing lighting columns approx. 6m high that have 3 fittings on them. If we are replacing the column and the fittings with 2 fittings would it be sensible to run a 3 core cable to a jb at the bottom of the column and then run a 3 core from the jb to each of the fittings? Thanks

    Wiring of a vsd

We have an acs800 drive. We also have a hand/off/auto switch. My question is how do we wire this HOA switch into the drive to give a manual start when we also have an auto start going into the drive? Thanks

    Relay question

We have a panel for isolation relays. In this panel we have a 24v psu, and we are sending 24vdc from this panel to another panel(ESD Panel) where it will be switched back. We then have a relay (in the isolation relay panel) on the 0vdc. When this relay is energised it will close some contacts in...

Individual or overall and individual screened cable

When is it best to use overall and individually screened cable. If we have a signal and power in the one cable then this should be overall and individual, say for a pressure transmitter? Does anyone know any rules of thumb for determining how to choose? Thanks

    Number of cores

We have two push buttons for ESD and a level switch going into a jb Each of these have 3 cores(9 cores total) but the cable that comes out of the jb only has five cores. Am I correct in assuming that a common supply has been used? But I am not sure how to account for the other cores? Also we...

Number of fibres in a fibre optic cable

I have seen that there are various amounts of fibres 8,12,24 etc in fibre optic cables. Is this just one signal per fibre. So for instance an 8 fibre cable could take 8 separate signals? Thanks

    fibre optics

We have a remote I/O card located in an mcc room taking a temperature input. this then links to a fibre optic patch panel also located in the mcc room. this then links to a fibre optic patch panel in an equipment room and this links to the DCS. My question is what is the purpose of using the...

    Mcb

We have an instrument panel with an mcb inside that breaks the live(230v) and neutral. However in another panel for the same project we have an mcb that is only breaking the live. Has anyone came across this before? Thanks

    Pneumantic Actuator

We have a pneumatic actuator that will be used to control a fan damper. We have a positioner (TZidc. A requirement of this system is that it must fail fixed on loss of signal (4-20mA) and also loss of air supply. Has anyone ever used this positioner for this function before? Also no external...

    Stainless Steel Captive Clamps

We have a junction box specification that asks for 316 stainless steel captive clamps. Am I correct in assuming that these clamps are for cable screens? Thanks

    secure and normal supplies

I know that instrumentation usually runs off a secure supply and any heaters, lights etc would run off an auxillary supply. My question is Can you interchange these and have heaters etc running from a secure supply and instruments from an auxillary or have both ie heaters and instruments both...

    RTD Extension Lead

Would a 10m RTD extension lead have to comply with a clients cable specification or can we say that since it is an extension lead then it not really a separate cable? Thanks

    Instrumentation questions

The client has requested that transmitters be 2 wire loop powered so taking. Am I correct in assuming that if the transmitter is powered (24VDc) from the power supply in the panel then it is not loop powered? Also would severe modifications be required for them to work on a 2 wire loop powered...

    Switch Rating

Our client asked that all switches be rated 8A@220VAC and 8A@24VDC., Our suppliers are struggling to meet the DC rating. the closest they can find is 10A@250VAC and 5A@30VDC. Am i right in thinking that this rating would be more than suitable? Thanks
