Dear all,
I have a peculiar case in which the exact opposite happens from what is expected. I am modelling crack propagation using cohesive elements. In the beginning I am just modelling a mixed-mode bending test in plane strain to calibrate my model parameters. The model is bending dominated...
I am working on a crack propagation problem using cohesive elements with Abaqus Implicit Newton-Raphson algorithm. It says in the manual that viscous regularization should be applied to the cohesive elements to help with convergence. The viscosity guarantees that the tangent stiffness matrix is...
How do I model a piece of rope which does not elongate under load, and has no bending stiffness. How should I define the part, what elements to chooose and what constraints to put?
Is there something like an element selection guide for beginners? If you know something like it, I would be very greatful if you would share.
As a student I got a whole lot of Abaqus assignments thrown at me without ever having had any classes. Choosing the right elements is a big sticky point...
Abaqus finds solutions even when not all DOFs of the body are constrained. Apparently it sets constraints on its own to guarantee a solution. What I want is Abaqus to tell me, warn me, or allow me to check which DOFs, or RBMs are not constrained.
I designed various parts in Catia v5 and put them together in the assembly work bench. Its a fairly large assembly so I use various subassemblies.
When I made changes on a certain subassembly or a part, CATIA seams randomly to disregards changes or even undo them. This Monday I open the...
I am modelling a thin plate-like structure which is statically loaded and deforms plastically. I then assume the load is taken off and Abaqus shows me the (expected) residual stresses. Now I would like to know if and how the structure buckles due to these residual stresses. How should I go about...
