Update on thread404-384626
The matter got taken to court by the HSE and after many delays the company concerned was fined a massive £500000 + costs last week for Health and Safety breaches on that single, small site.
I would imagine that the owners will now take H&S much more seriously...
I have set up a kinematic model of a railway bogie moving relative to the car body so that I can obtain internal clearances, damper lengths and damper trunnion angles. The mechanism is free to move in X,Y & Z plus it can pitch and yaw in any combination of movements. I have set up several...
Hi - Can anyone tell me what the Catia v5 R19 icon next to FLEXX and FEP_ on the attached screen shot indicates please. I have tried searching Catia help and Google without any success so far.http://files.engineering.com/getfile.aspx?folder=178c3ea4-db17-4711-bd45-b0f07bef6097&file=Icon.jpg
Hi,
I have a Produce saved locally that is linked to a kinematics black box saved within VPM Enovia. Along with the kinematics BB there are many other models also saved in VPM inside my Product. Changes to the models are reflected in the Product and so are the skeleton parts within the...
Hi - I have a series of compiled simulations with Distance applications set up all within one Catia product. I would like to be able to extract the distance outputs to a file but I am unable to do so. It appears that once you have created a Simulation you cannot add Distance applications and get...
The picture shows an 8m long beam left hanging on 4 bolts. I don't have site access but the section looks to be about 200 x 100 RHS and the bolts are about M20 through top and bottom flanges welded to the section. This looks very bad to me and likely to damage the structure - what does the group...
I am trying to define a projection plane on a drawing. I have projected the required view from 3D using the sketch plane and I thought the clearest way to illustrate this in 2D would be to show the plane on an isometric view with an explanatary note. Is it possible to project a plane and the...
We have an interdepartmental dispute over the definition of symmetry on drawings partly because ISO 129-1 and ISO 2768-2 can be interpreted to conflict with each other. ISO 129-1 permits symmetry to be indicted whilst ISO 2768-2 does not require it as it is implicit. I think symmetry should be...
I have been drawing a machined part based on previous designs and one area requires an Ra1.6 surface finish. However the Engineer checking the job has found another drawing which specifies the same area finished to Ra1.2. Having never had cause to give it much thought I have always assumed that...
Hi - I am tasked with retro fitting an access step to a cast steel railway bogie frame. Due to fatigue limitations welding is not possible so we have settled on bonding pads to the cast surface to form bolting faces which will then be drilled though and the casting tapped M12. I am looking for...
Hi,
I have lost the window that should pop up when you use the measure command in Catia V5 R19. The command still works and I get the output in the green on screen box but no command window. The thickness measure command works as normal.
I have restored my settings from a back up file so I can...
Hi - We are looking at having a variation of an existing product manufactured in Brazil. Currently it is made of metric thickness steel plates ranging from 5mm to 20mm thick. I know Brazil is a metricated country but I am having difficulty finding out what plate thicknesses would normally be...
Hi everyone,
I have been reading about WW1 and 2 battleships and the thickness of their armour plating. I am curious how such thick plates were joined and attached to the ship's frame. Even with modern welding methods I don't imagine plates 12" thick could be welded very easily plus the plates...
What is the best way of dimensioning plates with radii at intersecting edges for NC manufacture?
Imagine you are drawing a triangle with a radii at each corner. Is it better to dimension the triangle by defining each corner location then fitting in the radii or would it be better to define the...
