Looking at plans from 1955 where they call out one way CIP slab reinforcing as "216-49 wire mesh"
Does anyone have literature on this type of mesh?
Thanks in advance
Does anyone have any commentary that explains why the California Mechanical Code (section 508.4) requires hood supports to be able to support an additional 800 lbs. beyond the hood weight? This is more than the hoods themselves in many cases.
Thanks in advance
Does anyone recognize the joist in the photo? I am trying to determine the manufacturer and locate load tables.
I have sent this to the SJI also and will update if I hear back

ASCE7-16
For high seismic load areas, does anyone know why Fa is higher for site class C (1.2) than it is for D (1.0)? This is inconsistent with the other site class values and also inconsistent with prior versions on ASCE7.
I don't see this anomaly addressed in the commentary.

Florida Friends:
I heard the new law has been signed requiring building inspections on certain types of structures after 30 years. I do not know the specifics- but am interested in hearing how structural firms are preparing to ramp up to take on all this new work.
To brace a ten foot tall interior steel stud wall, I am spanning a track horizontally from corner to corner of a room. There is no bracing to the structure above.
I have always treated a track like this as unbraced for flexural bracing.
Another engineer has suggested that the studs themselves...
I am compiling a list of states/jurisdictions that require 3rd party software for digital seal/Signature (Like Identrust)
I am aware of Florida, New Jersey and the city of Denver
Anyone know of others?
Thanks
Anyone recognize these joists? Project is in Houston. Looks like double angles top and bottom, don't know what the web is.
I did not see these in person- Architect forwarded the pictures
Thanks
The City of Denver (and a few other cities I found doing a google search) is requesting that we digitally seal our plans/calcs (I have no problem with that)
The catch is that they want the digital seal to be unlocked.
I though the purpose of digital seals was to make sure nobody could manipulate...
The Structural Engineers Association of Arizona has a petition to encourage changing the IBC code cycle to 6 years instead of the current 3 years. See the link to sign the petition.

Is anyone aware of a Los Angeles Research Report # for aircraft cable? As a city comment, the city of Los Angeles wants me to provide an LARR# for standard aircraft cable.
I would be surprised if one exists, but thought I would put it out there
Thanks
Project: New addition with a basement going in next to an existing at grade commercial building.
To retain the soil/footing for the existing building, we are considering H piles and wood lagging next to the existing footings, then put a new concrete wall on the basement side once we get deep...
I am getting no help from the trolley manufacturer- so I would appreciate input here
I am designing a simple monorail beam for a 2 ton underhung crane. The beam will be over 100 feet long, so it will need a splice. The manufacturer indicates that the beam width must be between 3.5" and 5.5"...
This topic has been discussed many times in the past. I am looking for current opinions.
I am getting tired of all the bugs in Enercalc and am considering switching to Tedds.
I'm looking for opinions on both software packages
Thanks
San Antonio has already adopted the 2015 IBC. Is anyone aware of any major structural changes?
Since everything seems to be reference based now, I doubt it- but wanted to see if anyone knew differently
