We are currently planning a tunnel for a small hyro project and one of our engrs. recommended to use rectangular shaped tunnel instead of an arc roof tunnel to save money for tha arc rib support..what would be the disadvantage if we use rectangular shaped when it comes to quality of the support..
What is the most conservative way in calculation of the allowable bearing capacity using the unconfined compresive strength of the rock....example: UCS = 12.5MPa
We have a pipeline project on a 60 degree slope mountain. We hired a specialist to evaluate the factor of safety which they provided equal to 2.31. Based on my site inspection the soil is dominantly composed of loose gravel. Thickness of soil is 3-6m from boreholes. Bedrock consiting of DIORITE...
Can someone provide me a reference or ideas for typical UCS (unconfined compressive strength) of various type of rock and also the typical bearing capacities of various rock for preliminary assessment.
Thanks
