I use a Makerbot Replicator 2 for making prototype parts for consumer products and I would like to upgrade.
Could anyone recommend printers in plastic that would be better in finish , speed and reliabilaty than Replicator 2. I am sure there have been many enhancements this type of machine...
I wish to join alu. foil to ss foil by soldering or welding.
I would like to keep join low profile so a riveting or clamping is not suitable.
Foils are about 50 micron thick and 12 mm wide.
So far soldering with 60/40 solder has proved unsuccessful. Especially with SS.
I am sure the...
ST8 seems to have quite a few bugs in my experience.
Test not visable in dimensions. Extrude command fails in all parts whe working in ordered mode. The latter can be fixed by generating new part and making a base extrusion. After that there is no problem until issue pops up again.
I'm...
Anybody out there know of a Makerbot forum giving technical advice on problems with Replicator 2?
I am having ongoing issues and not getting much satisfaction from technical support. Now they are giving me the "out of warranty" line despite this going back to virtuslly to when printer was new...
I wish to pot some temperature sensitive electrical components in a hard resin that doesn't heat up above 30C during setting. Is there a slow set epoxy of polyurethane that wont heat up too much. I assume mass and area of product have effect on ultimate temperature. Part is 4" square and...
I would like to make an electret material for a expirament with capacitance. I have been given instructions for making it from a mixture of waxes:
"Bulk electrets can be prepared by cooling a suitable dielectric material within a strong electric field, after heating it above its melting...
I wish to genetate an electrostatic charge of a few kV across a metal plates about 4" square for an expirament. I need to maintain charge for a few hours in normal room conditions.
So far I havnt found any instruments apart from a Van de Graaff generator or similar mechanical systems to do...
I am doing some research on different electrical cells.
The electrode on a lithium cell seem to be made of an inert metal which passes through case and is connected to Li with some sort of paste. Would I be correct in assuming this is a conductive paste used to prevent any galvanic reaction...
I am working on a prototype product in aluminium 6082-T6. Machined cube about 4" with flat faces and rounded corners.
I wish to clear anodize and would like to achive a smooth, flat blemish free finish that wont show finger marks too badly.
What would be a good surface roughness to achive...
I have 304 stainless steel foil about 0.05 mm (0.002") thick. I dont have much more information . Sorry.
I wish to anneal foil so that it is easier to cold form small squares about 20x20 mm . Is there an easy to do this without having to send to heat treating facility? I have flame torch...
I wish to seal surface of aqueous solution at the liquid surface to prevent evaporation. Solution contains acetic acid. This is a small stainless steel beaker about 10 mm that is half filled with solution. Cant seal with solid object like rubber cap
Can anyone recommend a resin or wax that...
I wish to use a small pcb router that normally takes gerber files from PCB design software to do some simple 2D work from DXF data. Just need tool paths and drill centres.
Any body know where I could get DXF/Gerber conversion done for free?
thanks
I wish to cut metal foils of aluminium 0.05 mm and stainless steel 0.05 mm bonded with adhesive so that two metals dont come into contact or are welded together.
I am considering laser cutting.
How would I calculate power required and best type of laser?
How could I ensure two metals dont...
Would it be feasible to mount a laser cutter on the end of a 6-axis robot capable of cutting metal foil?
Foil is aluminium and stainless steel layered together . total thickness <0.5mm.
Robot is an IRB120 with 3 Kg load carrying capacity.
Please recommend manufacturers that may have...
I am doing expirements with electric heaters by insulating heating wire with 95% Alumina fish spine beads wound around metal spool and running temperature up to 1100C. 230VAC 11A.
I noticed that above 600C there was some current leakage into metal spool.
Would this be due to current leakage...
There are plenty of domestic plug-in electric energy meters for monitoring consumption about the home or office.
These will refresh display every 10-20 seconds.
I wish to monitor a rapidly switching device and I am concerned the energy meter may not be getting a true value of consumption if...
I am trying to source supply small potible water pumps for a domestic product I am designing for mass production.
600 ml/min - 10 gal/hr
99C - 210F
3 bar 43 psi
120/230 AC supply.
The small size and reletively high pressure would suggest a solenoid pump would be ideal however the temperature...
I wish to dispense an adhesive or sealant in a continuous circular pattern about 10 mm onto a flat metal foil disk. Epoxy or acrylic UV cured are favoured.
This will be used in automation machine working at 60 shots per min.
Rather than a single point nozzle and moving in circular pattern...
I am looking at making 10 mm disks and placing them on part. Disks material is 0.0127 mm stainless steel foil.
Punch and die would be my first thought in making disks however the punch and die clearance to shear metal from foil seems to be less than 0.001 mm. This I would imagine would be...
