What type of tube connection is this?

Hi All, Can anyone identify this type of tube connection? I am looking to find some literature on this. Note the slots cut in the ferrule... This comes from a 1500 psi HPU - circa 1960. Thanks, 22west.

    Stress Classification Line Question

Hi All, I just received a consultant's report on a pressure vessel and for each nozzle three SCLs were examined. See attached image. I understand the need for lines 1 and 2 but what is the point of line 3? It is not on the pressure boundary - so why examine that area? Note that the weld at...

What type of crack could this be?

Hi, Below is a picture of a recent re-weld at the base of a lug. This is an old 1950's structure with not a lot of good documentation - both the lug and the shell are thought to be mild steel. The weld was re-done by a certified structural welder after some cracking had been found. The welder...

Looking for 1956 ASME Section II allowables for A212A and A212B (or a nearby year).

Hi, I am looking to see if anyone has a 1956 copy of ASME Section II where they could look up and tell me the published allowable stresses for both A212A and A212B firebox steels. I would also take something "in the vicinity" of 1956 as well. Thanks, 22west

Designation "T" on old boiler plate steels

Hi All, I am looking at a list of old boiler plate steels and find they have a designation of "T" at the end. Example A212-1957T. I believe the 1957 is the year produced (and please correct me if I am wrong on this) - does anyone know what the "T" represents? Reference image attached...

ASME S8D1 Figure 2-4 - what applicable weld scheme?

Hi, I am performing a S8D1 flange calc on an existing PV cover (flange + torispherical head). I am trying to establish the most applicable flange -to-head weld scheme from Figure 2-4 - I think it is sketch (11), full pen with backchip. I attach an image of the flange weld detail from the...

ASME Section VIII Div 2 fatigue life evaluation

Please forgive my lack of ASME code knowledge in this question, Does ASME Sect VIII div 2 recommend the use of Von Mises stress plots to evaluate fatigue life? From some casual reading on-line I get the impression it does, Intuitively I would expect a principal stress plot to be a more accurate...

    Samsung Techwin Centrifugal Compressors.

Does anyone have any operational experience with the Samsung Techwin centrifugal compressors? Specifically the larger SM series units. There seem to be a lot of these in China, Korea and Russia - but not too many in North America. They have an office in Houston. Samsung have been making their...

Cuts in Light Pole Base Plate

Can anyone tell me why there is a cut from the hole to the corner of this base plate. There is a cut at each corner. http://www.portlandbolt.com/image/industries/light_pole_traffic.jpg I see this mostly at the base of light poles in parking lots. Thanks.

    Hinged Doorway on large vessel.

I need to put a hinged door on a large section VIII vessel. I don't recall any rules on hinged doors in the code. Additionally I can only find vendors who make doors for bulkheads in ships. I have seen these dished head doors : http://www.steelcraft.ca/website/fcf/quickdoors.php But I am...

    Snap-Tite Quick Coupling Pressure Drop

Does anyone know how to calculate the pressure drop across a quick coupling? Or atleast know of a method of accurately extrapolate published data? The catalog data typically gives the pressure drop using oil or water as a test media at room temperature or slightly warmer. See page 2 here ...

    Name Plate(s) for Vessel

Gents, I have a vessel made of three sections, an end cap (head, cylinder and flange) , a spool (cylinder and two flanges) and another end cap. The three sections are assembled with two bolted connections. All three sections see the same pressure, however, due to the nature of the internal...

    VIII-1 pressure vessel windows.

From my understanding, for a VIII-1 vessel, since there are no code rules on sight glasses or windows, the calculations for these components are not required in the MDR - ASME looks at these components as "proprietary". The designer only need define a boundary between the code-designed vessel...

    AutoCAD .iges into Ansys

I imported an .iges from AutoCAD into Ansys but the scale of the geometry came in way off - 4 inch thick plate became a 0.25 inch thick plate. The same thing happens when I bring in a .step file from AutoCAD. Any thoughts? Thanks.

    Titanium Allowables

I'm looking at the allowables for Titanium (SB-348 Bar) in section II part D. The VIII-1 allowables (Table1B) are higher than the Section VIII-2 allowables (Table5B). Shouldn't this be the other way around? Thanks.

    16" Butterfly Valve @ 1800F & 75psia.

Any recommendations of a supplier for a valve under these conditions? Has anyone seen of these in the field? I have been to several vendors and have currently found only one supplier - the shaft and stuffing box are air cooled.
