Please use this thread and NOT the "Current Peak Cylinder Pressures" thread for discussion of GDI and it's impact on allowing higher static compression ratio, lower fuel consumption, etc.
Is best not to go off-topic on a thread so that those reading or desiring to contribute do not need to wade...
I found one older thread here on balancing a 5 cyl. version of the VR6 engine but no info. on actually balancing it. I have read in other forums conflicting ways to balance the 15 deg. (or 10.6 deg.) narrow angle VR6 engines. No one really seems to know exactly what VW decrees as far as I can...
I have read a number of threads here regarding PCP on turbocharged engines, mostly in regard to Diesel or other experimental or developing engine tech. The minimal info. on turbo S-I PCPs however left me wanting for more info. Since virtually all major pass car companies are downsizing to turbo...

I came across this older thread while searching for some other info. and thought I would comment based on firsthand experience.
While the acronym "MBT" can certainly have several meanings, in regards to engine mapping it is in fact an SAE term for Minimum ignition timing for...
I did a search and didn't really find much so I'm throwing this out for discussion. I'm specifically looking for info. from lubrication durability test folks if possible. I don't want this thread to turn into an anecdotal discussion on my favorite lubes... :>)
My question is does anyone on here...
We lost one today and two more are critical... God speed.

For those who tune suspensions for a living, why is it common to use more rebound shock damping than compression damping, particularly at lower velocities say under 6"/sec.?
I've enjoyed reading 52 pages of Tips many of which included suspension natural frequency and shock damping calibration, which obviously several people here do for a living. I also "get it" in regards to shocks having the same damping profile/rate but having completely different "feel" because...
This is a force vs. velocity graph for a performance OE front shock with only 10K miles on it so I do not believe it is worn our, but it does have unusual damping IMO. Testing was conducted by an experienced tech at Koni's facility. Any thoughts on why the relatively high bump at low velocity...
