I am having some parts cryogenically deflashed by a sub-contractor. Are there any issues to be aware of (cracking, reduction of seal 'life'). The parts are small o-rings for a snap on type fitting and should last 30 years+.
appreciate any input to add to my Google search!!
Thanks
Hi,
I am seeking a bit of advice regarding steel (and the different names/references that are used). I have a supplier offering me a component in CR4, but my customer wants EN 43 A..... are these materials the same?
I have had a Google-hunt but didn't help make the picture any clearer for...
Guys,
I am on here seeking some advice, I have just got a project to source/develop an EPDM compound to pass BS6920 (odour/flavour and MDOD in particular). The part we are looking at developing will come into contact with drinking water before and potentially after the stopcock and apparently we...
Guys,
Help needed to identify a dimensional standard for punching parts from rubber sheets (10mm thick 70A EPDM in this instance). Our customer has referred to ISO2768, but this is for parts cut from sheet metal (or when metal is cut away).
If I should have posted this elsewhere then let me...
What is the preferred dwell time from mixing to processing? As a rule my current company leave material for 72hours before processing (NR, EPDM and NBR polymers). Is this excessive? I have previously worked in a company that kept to 48hrs.
What is the general opinion; pros and cons etc.
Thanks
Hi All,
Back seeking some advice regarding joining a mixed material extrusion. The profile is basically a boot/door seal design with a sponge bulb on a plastic (so our lab tells me) covered metal carrier.
We have had some issue with the joining of this process, the customer has requested the...
Hi All,
Is there a limit to the temperature EPDM should be cured at?
Would the max temp change depending on the method of manufacture (compression, injection or extrusion (hot air and microwave))?
Is the max temperature more related to the breakdown of any sulphur cross links rather than the...
Has anyone got some good resource for understanding the working of a microwave oven on an extrusion line? 6 Magnetrons with a belt that is 200mm wide (approx). Rubber is cured through the ovens.
I am going to post this on the microwave section as well....
Thanks in advance

Is there a consistent/recognised method for quickly checking/verifying a good state of cure on EPDM or NBR extrusion?
I would like the operator to verify set-up and processing of material is OK before the lab perform the final product tests (lab testing occurs around 12-16hrs after curing and...
Hello Again!
Just a quick question today....can changes in carbon black (supply rather than grade) change the shrinkage of the material?
I have been led to believe that the polymer used has more impact on the shrinkage.
Basically I am trying to find out what affects changing different...
Hi Everyone and Anyone,
Need some more advice, currently reviewing the process of rubber to metal bonding. Got the general idea but wondered if anyone knows of a good resource on the subject.
Product needs to be well bonded and samples I have received have been inconsistent (good bond, bad...
I am currently having a quality problem with an NBR product in a compression tool.
The product is a largish flat faced round seal, however there are air traps/flowmarks forming on and just off the flat sealing face on the internal face of the product only. The customer has a spec for marks on...
Does the method of curing extrusion (microwave, hot air or salt bath) have an affect on the quality of joint?
I have the option of shot joining and Normec film (Normec preferred).
Also does anybody know any good resources about extruding that I can get hold of easily?
I get the general...
Hi,
I run a QA lab and we have an old Wallace Microhardness (IRHD) tester. It is hand operated and at least 20years old. I would like to replace it and wondered if anyone can suggest the best (or most commonly used) meter.
Are there any disadvantages/limitations with newer machines
Thanks...
