    Studding Outlet Calculation

We are installing a custom studding outlet into the center of the head. The analysis would seem to be a variant on Fig. 2-13.2. The issue is equation (2) for C in Table 2-7.1. Since there is no hub, it would appear g0, g1 and h are equal to zero which makes h0 undefined. How is this to be...

    Locking Options in Excel

Is there a way to prevent other users from changing the options in Excel? Example is to prevent a change to "Move after Enter" under the Edit tab.

    Excel "Goal Seek" Not Converging

All of a sudden, "Goal Seek" does not converge to the goal in Excel 2003. It moves farther and farther away. I have not knowingly changed anything. I have rebooted in an attempt to fix with no luck. Any ideas?

    Tractor-Trailer Turning Radius

Can anyone tell me how to determine the total turning radius of a tractor/semi-trailer. I know the wheelbase and turning radius of the tractor and the wheelbase of the trailer. Thanks in advance.

    Lost Graphics in Excel

All of a sudden I have lost the graphics created with the Draw menu in one sheet of an ExCel workbook. Newly created ones are not displayed. "Showall" is selected in the Tools>Options Menu. I have reinstalled ExCel.

Allowable Compressive Stress on a Stiffened Cylinder

We have a horizontal cylinder (simple beam)with longitudinal stiffeners along the top. We have a distributed load with the resulting compressive stress along the top. While the reviewing agency agrees that UG-23(b)(2) does not apply once the cylinder includes stiffeners, they do not agree that...

    Buckling of Stringer Stiffened Cylinder

I have a horizontal pressure vessel designed to ASME Sec VIII, Div 1. If I add longitudinal stiffeners at the point of maximum compressive load, am I still limited by the allowable compressive stress as determined for B in UG-23(b)(2) or may I use the higher limit of the tensile as in...

1% Proof Strength of Stainless Steel

Section 6.7.4.3.3 of the IMDG and ADR codes for the design of portable tanks calls for the use of the 1% proof strength for austenitic steels. Section 178.274(c)(2)(ii) of 49CFR also cites the use of 1% proof strength. What is the source of this data for SA240 Grade 304 Stainless steel? Does...

    Macro For Goal Seek?

I frequently run "Goal Seek" under the Tools menu with little or no change to the dialog box entries. Is there a way to use data from cell entries to eliminate re-keying the same data.

    Macro Buttons Outside of Workspace

I seem to remember seeing an Excel spreadsheet where there were macro buttons to the left of the row numbers. I have now tried to find such a setting or function without success. Anyone familiar with such things?

Reaction Force of a Dropped Object

I have a large skid platform weighing about 80,000 pounds which, when unloaded from a truck, may have one end drop about 2 feet onto a concrete surface. The final velocity is 11.3 fps. How do I calculate the reaction force when it hits? The skid is on sttel runners 12 inches wide on each side.

ASME Section VIII vs CSA B620-98

I just ran upon a conflict between UG-100 of Sec. VIII and Section 5.2.4 of CSA B620-98. The newer ASME Code has lowered the multiplier and now calls for pneumatic at a minimum "and maximum" of 1.1 times the max design pressure. B620 calls for pneumatic of TC 341 vessels at 1.25...

    Low Temp Thermal Expansion

I am seeking chart data on linear expansion coefficients of 304 stainless steel and 5083 aluminum in range of +100°F to -320°F. I am getting differing results from NIST and Expansion Joint Manufacturers Association.
