An new approach for design documentation

Hi I’d like to get some feedback from experienced engineers on a new tool we have developed for documenting calculations. It is a add-in for Word that allows updatable, unit based equations to be added directly in a Word document. It provides an alternative to spreadsheets, “black box”...

    Wall shear Vuc

Section 11.6.3 gives 2 equations to calculate Vuc, one for tall and one for long walls. If Hw/Lw is just larger than 1, Vuc becomes infinite, which doesn't seem right. Does anyone have any thoughts? If the crossover is at about Hw/Lw=1.3 then the 2 curves are fairly compatible.

    Fire in AS3600-2009

There appears to be some major errors in in the column fire resistance section 5.6. Data for axis depth of longitudinal bars in columns has been derived from Eurocode EN 1992-1-2:2004. Several errors in the conversion of this document have been noted. They include simple typographic errors as...

    Equivalent Frame Stiffness

The new AS3600 says that for linear analysis of equivalent frames the stiffness of members should be representative of conditions at the limit state. The previous code allowed gross or "other resonable assumptions". At the strength limit state, stiffnesses may be only 10-20% of gross...

    Earthquake design categories

AS3600 (including the latest draft I've seen) and AS4100 give earthquake detailing requirements for earthquake detail categories A to E. They were defined in AS1170.4-1993 but are no longer defined in AS1170.4-2007 so you are in a bit of a black hole trying to be consistent. Does anyone know if...

    Creep Shrinkage in Draft AS3600

The creep shrinkage properties in the new draft of AS3600 have everything happening much faster. For example Figure 6.1.8.2(A) creep 50% complete in 200 days for a 200 thickness where Figure 3.1.7.2 in the draft has 50% complete in 60 days. Does anyone know of data to support this. It makes a...
