My question has to do with venting a mechanical seal reservoir (plan-52) to flare vs. to a vapor recovery unit. Am I correct in assuming that the vru piping is at negative pressure, while the flare line is at positive pressure?
I would like to get help on setting up the plan 53B, particularly the common practice for selecting the precharge pressure on bladder accumulator, and minimum operating pressure of the barrier fluid. thank you
I have a question about tungsten carbide coating on a seal sleeve. The sevice is high-pressure crude with trace H2S. My question is: which grade is better, cobalt bound or nickel bound? Thank you.
I have a customer with a few BF water pumps (1000 psi, 540 F). These pumps are 1-stage, dbl-suction impeller, horiz-split case. THey they keep trashing the seal on the coupling side after a few months run. Seal comes out with dynamic gasket blown and heavy rubbing marks on the ID of the gland...

In continuation to a previous discussion....
There are other factors in play but if your product is one that leaves a residue when it dries, and your primary seal is a pusher, then you are best served by using a contacting WET seal as the backup seal. My two centavos.

Hi folks. My question is in regards to an overhung API pump with closed impeller, wear rings and BALANCE HOLES.
I would like to ascertain if the pressure acting behind the impeller, in the area where the balance holes are located (adjacent to seal chamber), if it is only slightly above suction...
High energy barrel pump.
If you start one of these (or any multi-stage, between-bearings pump)with the discharge valve nearly shut...will the pressure developed by the impellers be transferred to the seal chambers, ie. apprach discharge pressure ? (...while the thrust bearing takes a beating)
