I am new to piping engineering and need some help from the experts in understanding some terminology/concepts(see below).
1)what is shake down?
2)Explain self limiting stresses and why primary loads are not self limiting?
3)what is ratcheting? Is it the same as cyclic fatigue?
If my NPSHR curve in the pump curve gives me a value of 10 ft (based on water). Do I need to correct it for a lower specific gravity (S.G) if my pumping liquid has a S.G. of .63. Do I simply do the following (see below)===>
NPSHR in the pump curve based on water (S.G.=1) is 10ft...
I understand that a vortex breaker inhibits the suction/draining liquid from forming a vortex but what exactly does a vortex do to a pump? In other words, what is the adverse affects of not having a vortex breaker? will the vortex travel along 20ft of 20" pipe configured with 3 90deg ells?
