Good morning.
I have a ASTM F65 material, which is a low carbon steel.
It has been encountered a HIC crack during the testing, the crack is 40mm long and due to the orientation, it constitutes a failure.
The chemical has passed which is a quite clean material. What other reason can cause this...
I have a large block of steel need to have heat treatment experiment on. But how can I calculate or stimulate the heating/cooling rate of the centre of a large componment?
It is a 6 inch cube, heating at 960C.
Thanks
I have a component been quenched and tempered at 580C
The material did not pass the impact test, would a 650C retempering make any difference?
What is the difference between a direct tempering at 650C and tempering at 580C and retempering at 650C?
It is a low carbon steel, very low alloy...
I have got a few low carbon steel forged bar with 620mm diameter and 3m long. It has been found that the chemical composition is varies from one end to the other with a difference of about 0.02% for carbon. Other elements are not varies considerably.
The material was already edge cutted and...
I have got a quench and tempered low carbon steel. The microstructure like pearlite + ferrite. Shouldn't it be tempered martensite?
Can someone provide me some useful information about quench and tempering microstructure?
thx
