All,
This is something that I am new to, but I have heard this mentioned as something that is possible to do.
It doesn't make much sense to me purely being able to do PF correction with software - I am imagining that all the software does is act in a control loop to control the amount of VARs...
Can anyone recommend some good reference material on DCS systems? I don't encounter them a whole lot in my current position but would like to learn more. I need something that's both introductory, has many applications to look at, and hands on (I learn by doing).
Thanks-
This is more geared towards the electrical power engineers who might know... Given that in the grand scheme of things, ICs and the digital age is a relatively new thing, and from my own experience, it seems that solid state breakers with removable trip units and plugs are a new item in power...
A little while back I was trading emails with a PE who claimed to have come up with a way to effectively transmit data over 60Hz (or whatever frequency for that matter) power lines. I have kind of lost touch since then but wanted to get some feedback on thoughts as to whether or not this would...
I know I’m missing something fundamental when understanding transformer impedances.
How is %Z calculated? It seems to me that if you looked at one winding of a transformer secondary (on a typical 480delta to 208wye transformer) you would find less turns, but more conductor. I am wondering if...
So,
This is internal to a piece of parelleling switchgear, if that makes any difference.
My gut tells me that this is not a big deal, but I wanted to run this by some other people first.
We have need for 2 loads in a generator enclosure - they are both 120V. One draws 7A, one 17A. We are...
Can someone please explain to me what drives the desicion between open transition and closed transition (and where this language is used: I've only heard it used to describe ATS operation), and what relationship this has to 'soft loading' etc. The long winded engineery answer that explains all...
Within SKM to model the damage/decrement curve of a generator, I have noticed that the two variables which have the greatest impact on where the damage curve lies (on the TCC curve) are the If and the Ifg.
The defaults for a generator within SKM are If=3 and Ifg=1.00. I usually just leave...
All,
We have 4160V switchgear L-L, a 3W setup with ground (no neutral bus).
We have to input voltage for relay operation of overvoltage, undervoltage, as well as other relay settings we’re picking up on. My question involves suggested connection of potential transformers. We usually use...
I'm *fairly familiar with demand factors and service calculations, but I was recently having a discussion with a colleague on calculating demand factors and was stumped. In the past I have always used excel sheets for the load center level (and all other distribution equipment). When it came...
The setup that is currently existing involves a pair of 480V generators that feed transformers that step the voltage up to 13.8kV , and in turn feed a piece of switchgear at this voltage. Utility feeds into switchgear, and switchgear feeds a couple buildings, presumably being dropped down to...
I was recently browsing some investment sites and they were discussing titanium outlook in terms of the market. One person suggested that because of titanium being outstanding in terms of its strength to weight ratio, and depending on the cost of fuel, it might be looked at as a viable...
Guys,
I am wondering if it is to code to use the tap rule on the secondary side of a VFD which is controlling a 400HP motor, to feed a much smaller fan/blower that will be in the same general area as the larger 400HP motor.
I'm searching for the NEC Article that might deal with this, other...
This is probably an easy one for those of you who have gone through and done a feasability on a LV vs. MV design for a site. I am about to do this but have little idea what relationship exists between a generator's voltage and its cost. What factors influence this, or is it more or less a...
