I am looking for a reference (preferably ACI) that details how a composite coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) for reinforced concrete may be computed given the individual concrete and steel CTE values.
I have spent several hours searching but have been unsuccessful at finding one...
I was hoping someone that is much more skilled at math than I could help me interpret the attached equation. Basically, I am trying to understand how humidity will vary through a cross-section of concrete. I understand concrete diffusivity 'C' will degrade with time and may be represented in...
Hello,
I was hoping someone that is much more skilled at math than I could help me interpret the attached equation. Basically, I am trying to understand how humidity will vary through a cross-section of concrete. I understand concrete diffusivity 'C' will degrade with time and may be...
I am working on developing a product evaluation plan that rates a product based on five independent parameters with differing possible range of weights. The goal is to balance all the scores and weights so that the maximum total score is achieved when all the (weights x scores) are summed...
We often use total station instruments, which utilize electronic distance measurements (EDM), to precisely measure and monitor structures. However, I noticed when measuring and monitoring a bridge over water recently, the measured distances fluctuated significantly as compared to other...
Client is looking to fill and existing pool and build a small garage in its place. Any experience on the best approach? Core the bottom for drainage and backfill with gravel?
We are testing the compaction for a building pad. Per the Proctor Test, the optimum moisture content is 8% but the pad right now is at 16%. The pad is about 18" thick. Is there a rule of thumb as to how long it might take to dry to the optimum moisture content?
When you consider the 'unbraced length' on a column when analyzing buckling potential, how would you determine if a particular 'brace' provides enough support to actually be considered a 'brace'?
For example, I have a 16' long column type memeber pinned at each end with an 8 kip compressive...
I have 1/2" dia lag screws going through a 3/16" plate into a beam and I am trying to determine the shear strength of the screws.
NDS Table 11K only gives values for my plate thickness up to a 3/8" dia screw. Do I use that value even though my screw dia is larger?
I briefly looked in the ACI code to determine when to design for flecture in a shallow footing but havent found anything as of yet.
I would imagine you would begin adding flectural reinforcement when a minimum moment or stress is reached..
Any guidence would be appreciated. Thanks.
