    Weld Repair ASME Section IX

We have pipe welds (4130 to X80) that X-ray has found small isolated areas that need repair. This x-ray is BEFORE PWHT. Does ASME Sec IX QW-202.3 support me making these repairs without having an additional repair procedure as long as I following the procedure parameters originally used to...

    Welding Filler Metals

I have a WPS with the filler metal specification 4130, manufacture Techalloy, F-No. A & A-No. 11. Testing of this procedure had Charpy Impact testing at -20C. Is it acceptable for me to use filler metal from another manufacture other than Techalloy as long as the specification is 4130, F-No. A &...

    Stainless Steel Pipe Welding

We are welding stainless steel pipe (316 to 316, 316L to 316L or Duplex to Duplex). Our normal sizes range from 3" to 4" OD and wall thickness ranging from .250" to .600" thick. During the welding of these pipes it has taken us up to 8 hours using GTAW process due to not exceeding our WPS...

    Section IX

If I have a WPS using GTAW root and hot pass and SAW fill and cap that only states 1G position can I weld the GTAW root and hot passes in the 5G position? Is this legal in ASME Section IX? If so where in Section IX can I find this?

    API 5L Table 11

Can anyone confirm the contents of API 5L Table 11 - Tolerances for Wall Thickness. If I am reading it correctly it states that pipe with a wall thickness of >0.157" to <0.984" only has a tolerance of +0.0059 / -0.0049. Is this correct and why would it be such a tight tolerance?

    Welding 8630 to X80

Any one have suggestions on welding 8630 to X80, GTAW root and hot pass then SAW for the remaining? This is my second try and every time the 8630 HAZ hardness is well over NACE MR0175 requirements.

    Stainless Steels

Is there any document / code stating why material hardness testing is not required after welding stainless steel pipe, such as 316 and duplex? Or is it required by some codes and not others.
