Does any one know the microstructure for low alloy steel SA213-T11/T12? ASME code shows that these alloys should be fully/isothermally annealled or normalizing + tempering. Can some one advise what microstructure formed after the above heat treatments, or show me some photos? Thanks a lot.
Hi,
I need your advice of the ASME VIII DIV.1 regarding the following two issues:
(1) The distance of the circumferential weld seam and nozzle reinforced pad is only 1 inch (Circumferential joint to the fillet joint of the re-pad).
(2) The circumferential weld seam is covered by the...
Hi all,
I have a question on the vendor's welding procedure. ASME IX is used for the welding procedure qualification.
PQR: GTAW + SMAW;
Test coupon thickness: 23.83mm;
Deposited welds thickness: GTAW: 5.0mm; SMAW: 18.83
WPS: GTAW
According to ASME IX QW-403.8 and QW-451.1, the qualified base...
This is a question about the impact test carbon steel piping (Low Temp. Carbon Steel). The fabrication code for Low Temperature Carbon Steel is B31.3. The vendor is planning to use a 0.5" thick pipe to qulify the piping thickness range from 0.25"-0.75".
According to ASME IX QW-403.6, the...
Hi,
I am reviewing the vendor’s WPS/PQR on FCAW welding process. I need your help.
Shielding gas is not used in the PQR. However in the WPS, CO2 is used as the shielding gas for FCAW process. Suppose the other parameters are the same, can we use this PQR to support the WPS?
ASME IX 408.2 (d)...
We have two Carbon steel Towers (ASME VIII Div.1) is in Wet H2S service and caustic service respectively. The vessels will be PWHT'ed.
Do we need to do PWHT for the carbon steel internals? These internals are not pressure part, do we need to take care of the caustic cracking or H2S cracking?
Can somebody explain the following code to me?
AWS D1.1 (2008) Table 4.5 (PQR essential Variable changes requiring WPS Requalification.......) Item 33:
A Change exceeding the tolerances of 3.12, 3.13, 3.13.4, 5.22.4.1, 5.22.4.2 involving:
(1) A decrease in the groove angle
(2) A decrease in...
(1) What is the difference of 1.25Cr-0.5Mo subjected to two different heat treatment processing, Normalizing + Tempering, and Quenching + Tempering; such as impact test values?
(2) API 934 requires impact test for Heavy wall 1.25Cr-0.5Mo materials. Why impact test is required for heavy wall...
ASME VIII Div.1 UCL-34(b)states that vessels or parts of vessels constructed of chromium stainless steel integral or weld metal overlay cladding and those lined with chromium stainless steel applied linings shall be postweld heat treated in all thicknesses.
Is this requirement applied to 304...
What materials can be used for a vessel with 1.0wt% NaOH solution and 0.5wt% NaCl? The temperature is 150C.
Carbon steel, Duplex stainless steel, or Monel or Inconel?
What are the requirements of Minimum Preheat and Maximum interpass Temperature for Aluminum welding, for example ASME SB209-5083 to ASME SB209-5083, or ASME SB209-5083 to ASME SB209-3003
Thanks.
PQR: SMAW + SAW
Test coupon thickness (base metal) of PQR is 46mm
Deposited Weld metal thickness: SMAW-20mm, SAW-26mm.
ASME IX is used for the welding procedure qualification.
WPS: SMAW
My questions:
(1) What is the qualified thickness range for base metal in WPS? 5-200mm or 5-40 mm? why...
A fabricator submitted WPS/PQR for review. The thickness of the Carbon Steel(ASTM A516-60N) test coupon on PQR is 40mm. The preheat temperature is 10C. No PWHT for the test coupon.
Based ASME VIII DIV.1, PWHT is mandatory for Carbon Steel plate thickness over 38mm. Is it a qualified PQR? Can...
I have a vessel which is designed at -50F. Impact test is required for this vessel.
My question is do I need to do impact test for the internal and external attachment, such as skirt, support ring, pipe support clips and platform? Or do I need to use UCS-66 to consider the exemption of impact...
I am preparing a Welding procedure for 2.25Cr-1Mo to 316SS.
From ASME VIII appendix R recommends 204C preheating temperature for 2.25Cr.
API 582 also recommends 175C Maximum of interpass temperature for 316 stainless steel.
1) I was wondering what temperature I can used for preheating and...
I have a super high pressure steam piping, which is 2.25Cr piping. It is going to be connected to a 316 SS Piping. We want to use welding or flange connection for these two different piping. The flow in the piping high pressure steam (959 DegF). We don't need to consider the galvanic corrosion...
