    Reboiler process design size'ing

Hi I am looking for help sizing a reboiler for a new project. 70 million L per year of pertol /diesel mix. Petrol over top, diesel as bottoms product. Not using a kettel. I have column reseved on the used market, 52 trays bubble cap 1 m diam x 15.540 m tall. I am thinking about...

Separating petrol and diesel via SG

Hi New project just been dumped on me! Need budget costs and proposal by next week! Will be dealing with 70 million L per year of petrol / diesel mix. This comes about at the interface following product changes in line trasfers. We currently on site do not have that capacity so are looking...

Calculation of expansion of hot material cooling in tank

Hi I need some urgent help on the following. We have a 18m3 7bar/full vac rated vessel that has a spring PRV of set pressure 125 psi and 175 l/min rated discharge. What I need advice on is calculating required discharge rate i.e. is our PRV correct. Material is introduced into the vessel via...

PRV size ref pressure ex cooling of vacuum

Hi We have a 18m3 7bar/full vac rated vessel that has a spring PRV of set pressure 125 psi and 175 l/min rated discharge. What I need advice on is calculating required discharge rate i.e. is our PRV correct. Material is introduced into the vessel via vacuum. The main problem comes from the...

    Pressure drop along a line.

Hi I have been posed a question by my EH&S manger, so looking for quick reply! I have calculated pressure required to move a slurry along a line by pressurising a pressure rated tank, connected to a 6" line approx 100m long and 18m head, to a tank vented to atms. The MAX pressure I have...

Is vacuum = pressure for same material?

In transfering material along a pipe would the pressure required to move this material be equal to the vacuum required to move the same material anlong the same pipe?

    Steam and static discharge.

Hi We regularly use Nitrogen from trasfer of material from one vessel to another via pressurisation of the vessel to trasfer along the pipe. A project I am working on has highlighted that the opperators always combine the 5bar Nitrogen with the 9bar steam to speed things up!!! I have read...

Pressure drop through bubble cap column

I am looking to buy a used column, 1m x 14m bubble cap 42 caps, 52 trays. I have no history of this column etc, is it possible to calculate pressure drop through this column or can it be only done from actual data. All I am after is a ball park figure.

Using steam as an inert gas blanket?

Can steam be considered as an inert gas for blanketing? In a project I am considering blowing a slurry along a pipe using nitrogen, but given that we have more avaliblity of "cheaper" steam that would be a better option.

    Sizing replacment condenser

Hi I am looking to replace our a heat exchnager we currently use as a condenser for a true condenser. I am looking on the second-hand market, what information do I need to comair what I have to what I am looking for? Thanks

    Used column calculating theoretical plates

Hi I am looking on the second hand market for a new distillation column to replace a bubble cap 12m height 34 actual plates 20 theoretical. I am looking for something better, possibly packed. When looking on the second hand market, they never list theoretical plates, how can I calculate this...

    Viscosity component in eqauation

Hi I am trying to calculate the nitrogen pressure required to blow a slurry of SG 1.08 (viscosity at moment unknown, but is about the same as thick paint) down a 6" line into a tank 12 m high (2 m off ground). Starting from a vessel of approx 10m^3 on ground level the pipe will rise to about...

Nitrogen purge of tank calculation required

Hi I need guidance in the calculation required to calculate flow/pressure or Nitrogen fill a tank (5m^3) with Nitrogen. The tank/Nitrogen is dual purpose 1 it is the blow of tank should the RD go 2 it (the Nitrogen) is used to replace the vacumm of another vessel. This opperation is preformed...

    Relieving capacity of PRV

Hi In the following equation A=(13160W?TZ) / CKP1Kb?M A = Minium effective discharge area, square millimters C= Coefficent determined from an expression of the specific heats of gas or vapour at standard condtions (if not known use 315) K= Effective coefficent of discharge...

Cal req for Nitrogen to push slurry down 6" line

Hi I am looking for help/guidance on the calculating of the possiblity of pushing a slury down a 6" line approx 100m, into a tank (125m3) 12m to top. I have upto 10 barg Nitrogen, but would like to confirm that it can be done/with less. I have considered the like of blowcases (acid eggs), but...

Calc req to confirm N2 will push slurry down 6"

Hi I am looking from so advice on which equation(s) I would use to calculate if it would be possible to move X slurry down a 6" line (100m long) with Nitrogen (10barg avalible) into a tank 125m3 and 12m high. Many thanks James

    Verification of sites PRVÆs

Hi I have been given the task of verifying if the sites PRV’s are correct for the application in terms of venting. I have searched many posts and some have said (I guess more in terms of starting from scratch) leave it to the experts. But since we already have them on site, and (?) they have...
