    Who nows about profilometers?

I'm an aerospace engineer working on a repair that requires a close finish tolerance. I know nothing about profilometers other than what they do and that generally I send parts out to the metrology lab for a report if the unusual event I have to get a finish measurement. For this repair I'd...

Where do I find specifications for AN hardware?

I need to make a bolt that is very similar to an AN bolt (AN4-12) with a modified head. Where do I find the original specifications for the bolt? Thank you very much for any help you may give me!

Aircraft brakes, where do I find AMS 6385 ?

I'm reproducing aircraft brake rotor segments; the original material is AMS 6385 Rev E, Low alloy heat resistant steel. My problem is finding this material (aprox 1/2" plate). Does anyone know where to get it, or a similar material that could be converted through a change in condition? Thank you

AL 2017 80 HRB??? What condition is this??

I reverse engineer airplane parts.... I'm having an issue with a part that was certified by my local lab to be aluminum 2017. The problem is that hardness tests indicate an average of 80 HRBW. I can only find 2017 in T4 (65 HRB) or O, is there some other spec that 2017 translates to that could...

    What is S80 steel?

I have to make a custom oversized bushing to repair an aircraft corrosion problem; I contacted the manufacturer and was told the original material is S80. I've found a couple vendors in the UK that sell it but I wonder if it converts to a more convenient standard? Also, what is the difference...

Laser cutting aircraft brake parts... HAZ?

My company is looking to manufacture aircraft brake parts, the part I'm discussing here is the brake rotor. The rotor has ten segments that attach to each other like jig saw pieces. When the rotor is assembled the pieces simply slide together on a table. Each rotor segment has to be cut to...

    2024 hardness values?

I'm rebuilding some control rods from 2024 T3, the Hysol 929NA thread locker/sealant requires that the control rods are oven cured for three hours at 300 degrees(F), I'm wondering how much effect this may have on the material? Thank you

    extruding brackets

My boss suggested today that we have a company extrude a bracket that typically is bent out of sheet metal, it’s a typical "u" bracket 4- 90 deg angles made of 2014 aluminum (unknown temper). Then with a long extrusion we could simply cut the brackets to length. Also, this bracket typically...

    2024 T42- to T3 control rods

I'm looking to justify making control rods out of 2024 T3 tubing that were originally made in T42, I just cannot get the T42 in the tubing I need, and I'll need to justify the T3 for PMA. Any thoughts? Thanks guys
