For a WPS that has been qualified using a base material classified in ASME IX, QW-422 as P1G2, we only use the WPS for the qualified/tested material.
I have case where a WPS (with impacts) was qualified using ASTM A350 LF2 and our customer would like us to utilize the same WPS for welding API...
Hello all, does anyone have advice regarding 4130 minimum forge ratio? In many industry specifications, a forge ratio of 4:1 is seen, while many times 3:1 is accepted. Does anyone know the source of the 4:1 forge ratio as I have been unable to find descriptions in literature shwing this produces...
Is there a set method to combine the forging ratios for cumulative forging processes? I.E. if there are several forging steps taken, how do I combine the reduction ratios from each step to get the total reduction ration to report?
I am looking for recommendations on the heat treatment of ASTM A487 4C. The ASTM specification gives 1600F for austenitizing treatment and 1150F for the tempering heat treatment. I have seen normalizing and austenitizing performed on this material, up to 1700F, and tempering up to 1200F. Does...
Does anyone know of a source of information for this material? I have not been able to find much information and am working towards developing a weld procedure.
I have always requested tack welding be completed within the parameters of an ASME IX qualified WPS. Product is not pressure-containing (not ASME B31). Is there a statement in ASME IX that requires tacks to be compliant with a qualified WPS?
Does nayone know where I can find hardness acceptance for F6NM for NACE MR0175 in terms of HV10 (Table A.18 of ISO 15156 only provides acceptance in terms of Hrc (23)) and the conversion factors in ASTM do not apply to martensitics.
Does anyone know where I can find clear hardness, HV10 acceptance criteria for F6NM. NACE MR0175 (ISO 15156) only provides HRc 23 as the limit. As is well-known, the hardness conversions provided by ASTM E140 do not apply to martensitics.
I am developing a WPS (butt weld) for F22 material. I am looking for the PWHT information for this material, does anyone know where this may be located? (ASME VIII for instance)?
Is there a difference in the calculation of heat input for overlay welding and butt welding.
I have seen calculation of heat input for overlay welding to be:
Average Amps= [(Peak A * Peak Time)+(Background A * Background Time)]/[(Peak Time + Background Time]
Torch Heat Input = [Ave...
I am observing cracking of 625 overlayed 8620-4130 butt welds ("hot cracking type occurrence). The butt welding is done after the 625 overlay (which has a PWHT) is in place. Has anyone experienced similar?
What does ASME allow for temperature variation on approved WPS's? I do not see any variation in the code for this, it states that the temperature variation is an essential but as everyone is aware, furnaces fluctuate. Is there a set variation in ASME IX? I have heard that it is 25F but I do not...
Can anyone advise as to the reason that API does not accept the continuous process annealing for 316 stainless? API is stipulating that the time is a requirement but most mills do not provide a specific time as the annealing is carried out in a continuous fashion.
