1° motor overheats at 1/2 FLA on full voltage

What is going on when a single phase 240V electric motor running at 1/2 of full load amps, overheats and trips out? All connections are fine, I'm getting 233 volts directly at the motor. There is no voltage drop across any breakers or contactors. We've tried a new motor with the same results...

Detect continuity with possible voltage potential?

Hi, I'm needing some sort of circuit to detect continuity between 2 wires for under $100. The two wires, when open circuited, can have anything from 240vAC to 0v. This circuit will operate a relay when continuity is detected. Any ideas?

Too much capacitance on capacitor start motor??

Is there such a thing as having too much capacitance on a capacitor start motor? In other words, is it possible to have too many uF worth of start capacitors? What I have run into is a 15 HP 1ø 3450 RPM centrifugal fan. Some of the run capacitors where a bit corroded at the terminals so I...

Soft start for rotary phase converter

Is there any way to soft start a 60 HP rotary phase converter on 1ø? This is a more rural area and 3ø isn't available. The electric company here didn't really like the idea of starting a 60 HP motor without a soft start. There wouldn't be any load on the motor at startup, of course.
