    THETA WHAT ???

    Ok, I give up. Ref. ASME VIII Div 2 (2007) page 4-54, equation 4.3.39 for 'sig'sm. Does anyone know what 'theta' represents here ? 'Alpha' is the half cone angle but there seems to be no relevant reference to 'theta'. It appears in bending and torsional stress equations.
