I have to weld SA 592 Gr F material with SA 516 Gr 70 material. The joint requires PWHT.
PWHT Temp of SA 592 Gr F - 540 TO 595 Degree cel.
PWHT temp of SA 516 Gr 70 - minimum 595
Which temperature should we follow?
We can not have 595 exactly as the temperature shall always have tolerance ...
We are carrying out full penetration weld joints in one of our project. But the customer specification does not call for carrying out volumetric NDE (i.e. RT/UT) of weld joints. So we are not carrying out RT/UT of weld joints.
But QC engineer is asking if you are not carrying out volumetric NDE...
Dear Sir,
In 2015 edition of asme sec. viii div. 1, as per clause UW-11 a8 UT was permitted in lieu of RT under certain constraints.
But 2017 edition onwards, this clause has been removed.
can someone shed some light on the reason?
for carbon steel dished end having thickness 52 mm i have to decide post forming heat treatment.
code doesnot specify whether post forming heat treatment shall be normalizing or stress relieving.
our general practice is above 16 mm, we do normalizing.
The vessel after dished end welding will...
for SA 537 class 1 Material, what will be the impact if we get higher UTS than specified in asme sec II 1.?
Generally code indicates minimum UTS required but for SA 537 material, minimum & maximum range of UTS is specified.
Dear experts,
I beg your pardon for raising issue related to ASTM in this ASME Forum.
But this is the only forum i know, where i get swift & accurate guidelines.
ASME standards give the chemical & mechanical properties in the same standard. e.g. for SA 479 Gr 304 L,we will get chemical &...
On internet i find that lot of suppliers are offering SA 514 material. But i don't fins it in ASME SEC. IIA.
I find it only in ASTM & not in ASME.
Experts please shed light on this.
Many times i face a problem wherein there is a minor deviation in chemical content of a element for particular grade mentioned in ASME SEC IIA. But , the mechanical properties are met. Considering the functionality of the component we the manufacturer feel that the deviation should be acceptable...
ASME SEC IIA does not specify hardness value of SA 516.
Mill Test certificates indicates maximum permissible hardness value of SA 516.
From where the MILL get that value?
Dear experts,
While determining permissible angular deviation, we have to consider length of shorter side of angle.
Can anybody kindly explain the " the shorter side of angle" with an example or sketch.
Dear Experts,
If vendor is carrying out intermediate stress relieving, & there is final stress relieving post forming, in that case whether we can exempt that intermediate HT on simulated material test coupon by taking benefit of UCS 85 (i)?
Dear Experts,
I have to calculate bolt load of heat exchanger having 3 gaskets.
1 gasket between shell flange & tubesheet & other 2 are in between channel flange & tubesheet.
pl. see the attached detail indicating flange tubesheet configuartion & gaskets.
for circular gasket wm2 = 3.14*b*G*y...
I have a requirement of vessel of SA 516 Gr 70+ ss304L CLADDING.
Vessel requires PWHT.
I am aware that to avoid sensitization, pwht cycle of ss cladded vessel is such that soaking temperature is reduced & soaking time is increased. (soaking temp 510 degree cel. Soaking time 10 hours/inch)
But...
I have always seen insertion of tube bundle in the shell of heat exchanger in horizontal condition.
Due to very small gap between fabricated shell & tube bundle, the insertion of tube bundle in the shell is a very difficult task.
Has any one came across insertion of tube bundle in shell done in...
WE HAVE A VESSEL. SHELL QUALITY IS SA333 GR 6. NOZZLE IS SA333 GR6. REINFOREMENT PAD IS SA516 GR 70.
UTS AT ROOM TEMPERATURE (ACTUAL) - 471 MPA AGAINST REQUIRED 486 MPA.
YS AT ROOM TEMPERATURE (ACTUAL) - 306 MPA AGAINST REQUIRED 260 MPA.
REINFORECEMENT PAD CALCULATION AS PER ASME UG-37 DOES NOT...
UCS-79 (POST FORMING HEAT TREATMENT) REFERES TO UCS56 FOR HEAT TREATMENT (POST WELD HEAT TREATMENT).
BUT SOME STANDARDS LIKE EIL,INDIA ASK TO CARRY OUT NORMALISING WHEN THICKNESS IS 16 MM.
WHAT WILL HAPPEN WHEN WE CARRY OUT STRESS RELIEVING AS PER UCS-56 (SOAKING TEMPERATURE = 595 DEGREE CEL.)...
Dear experts,
request to confirm whether my understanding is correct.

SS 347 consumables are used to weld the ss 321 parts. What is the reason that generally ss 321 consumables are not used/made for welding of SS 321 parts?
