Can anyone recommend a seminar for a complete newbie in the field of composites that offers a broad spectrum of introductions from materials to processes to applications ? And, most importantly, a seminar which is not intended to sell someones products or services.
I want to submit a ball valve for fire testing per API 607. As the water is trapped inside the closed ball during the test, and thermal expansion can lead to a bomb, wouldn't the ball require an upstream vent and thus be a uni-directional product ? Also, our valve is non-metallic. Metallic...
I am familiar with the addition of molbdenum to improve stress corrosion crack resistance of austenitic stainless steels. However, I request this Boards expertise in suggesting to my customer, what readily avaiable off-the shelf stainless steel pipe is suitable for seawater. They currently...
We're wanting to have a heavy wall (.125"-.150") rubber covering applied over corrugated stainless steel tubing to provide a soft smooth surface. The rubber must be tightly applied, as the tubing is bent and the rubber cannot "crease" or "fold" on the inner surface of the bend. Nylon, silicone...
Does anyone have any strong feelings about the relative merits of chevron vs cup and cone PTFE packing ? Why do the two co-exist, are there applications one is better ?
Thanks in advance ;

Can someone direct me to an expert or consultant in this field of expertise ? We are interested in the development of chemical/pharmaceutical flow meters but need the know-how for the electronics.
Thanks in advance;

When describing allowable leakage, the standard refers to ".01% of rated valve capacity". Rated valve capacity is defined as "the quantity of test fluid that would pass through the valve at rated travel under the stated pressure conditions as defined by the appropriate equations and...
Is anyone aware of composite molding compounds which are inherently intumescent, that is, in the presence of a fire form a protective char layer insulating the base material ?
I cannot find any reference for the effect that the inlet/outlet pipe diameter may influence the Cv of a throttling valve. We have a 4" butterfly valve bolted to 6" piping and are having control problems throttling the valves to maintain liquid level. We're thinking the Cv through the valve is...
What constitutes a "WOG" valve ? I know it stands for water, oil, gas, but are there specific designs/materials/perfornance that are defined or assumed when making this description ?
Thanks in advance.
Could someone give me the equivalent (%) HCl. I am wondering if 316 stainless steel will have minimal corrosion rates at this concentration.
Thanks in advance.
The specifications (ANSI B16.5, MSS SP72) I've seen pertaining to housing/flange shell integrity require a 50% safety factor over the cold temperature rated working pressure. Is this to mean that, in a pressure surge of more than 50% over max. working pressure, one can expect catastrophic...
Does anyone know the dimensions of either s.s. sanitary pipe or sanitary tubing ? Are the ID's the same, but different wall thicknesses ? Is sanitary pipe the same as steel pipe, based on schedule (10,20,40,..) ? When would one use one over the other ? What is the most popular type of sanitary...
I have 304 stainless steel castings that are developing rust. They have already been pickled (how and in what, I don't know). Can anyone guide me to the corrective action ? I've heard of passivating, sandblasting, electropolishing, and at this point, I don't have a clue as to the most...
We have introduced a fiberglass composite butterfly valve for the CPI. It is designed to API 609, ANSI B16.5 and MSS SP67 specifications. What regulations or testing must conform to, or pass, to be used in off-shore piping systems?
I would like to extrude tubing from this material. Does anyone know where information is regarding material suppliers, processing guidelines, grade options ???
Please help...
I assume that increasing the stress area of a thread increases its tensile force load capacity, so a UNF can withstand more tensile force than a UNC, but are other thread types better yet, such as acme or buttress ???
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.
