On a crude oil pipeline station, when does API 1104 apply and when does ASME Section 9? On Welding Procedures, I am hearing two versions:
1) API 1104, till after the first above-gound flange, then ASME Section 9; versus,
2) API 1104 throughout ..."a pipeline is a pipeline"
It has always been a concern to me about the halo effect of pipe welds, or any welds for that matter. The heat effect of the weld in the adjacent region of the pipe weakens the pipe strength, as with any heat weld.
On a practical basis, there does not seem to be a problem, especially because of...
Two questions:
1. Is weld rod numbered by ultimate strength or yield strength? ...hearing ultimate, but want to check.
2. Seeing Welding Procedures for X-65 pipe where E6010 is used as a stringer (due to ease of laying down a good root with complete fusion) with E8010 for hot pass through cap...
