Hey again ole friends...is good to have a few minutes these days to read through the posts.
I'm in search of a reference I've seen before and I'm pretty sure it came from the regulars here (BigH maybe). It was a lengthy reference (maybe USACE or similar...I'm thinking TM-something but that...
this is more of a reminder for those threads that are buried deep in pages that never get seen anymore. #57 stone (or any other aggregate) is NOT self compacting...it is far from it. this topic always manages to come back around and i'm always lost for words at how many people blurt out "it's...
i haven't seen this posted yet so thought i'd throw it up. it's crazy-wicked sinkholes that opened up.

I know there are many posts on the topic(s) but I wanted to ask a more pointed question instead of a broad, generalized one: is there a single source that provides a "good" definition/description of each type of modulus, its application, "typical" values for each type of soil based on what...
Anyone familiar with the term "plastic modulus" as it refers to soil? I've never run across that term but suspect it's simply a different term for something more commonly used.
Does anyone know of discounts for membership dues, conference fees, CEU costs, etc etc through ASCE or other professional societies for those of us that are unemployed (or even those that are financially strapped since many others have seen pay reductions or other layoffs within their...
as a quick reference, what range of costs are you seeing for E/O insurance (say for a small startup geotech firm)? i realize this will depend greatly on the locale and billings but a generalized range would be appreciated.
i haven't seen this posted yet. rather unfortunate for the contractor (same one as botanical garden walkway collapse)...they're actually "better" than most contractors i run across.

what is the downside of getting high strength test results out of "regular" strength grout and at what point do we really care? as a testing firm, should i really raise an uproar if said results are high and the EOR doesn't raise an eyebrow? i know some of the concerns...but would like to hear...
FYI: conference coming up next week (Dec 1-4) that should be very good. there's a lot of well-respected names in the field of geophysics set to attend.

not sure exactly where this question might go but this seemed like a reasonable spot.
any thoughts on the consequences of using sites like these? for instance, at what point might it become a liability to openly correspond about projects, problems, test methods/procedures, calculations...
anyone have a way to combine several long formulas in to one formula? the formulas are long and when i start adding them together in to one formula (one cell), excel eventually tells me the formula is too long. or is there a way to "optimize" a formula or set of formula to remove/combine common...
i'm looking for responses on your experiences related to astm committees. was the experience positive, negative, frustrating, waste of time, exuberant, the meaning of life, etc? also, how much time was dedicated toward your involvement? is it more or less what you make/takeaway from it of it and...
does anyone think it is realistic that absolutely enormous amounts of money be poured in to trying to build levees to withstand such an awesome force as a CAT4 or 5 hurricane?
i, as previously stated in threads, am against spending infinite amounts of money in to building/rebuilding levees...
i thought i'd throw a question out to you folks.
does anyone know of a good way to obtain data at a geophone then transmit that data (say 200 foot distance) to a remote computer/unit where it can then be passed in to the seismograph? the signal passing in to the seismograph is essentially the...
i thought i'd pass along a site that i saw a year or so ago and recently visited again. it's a rather in-depth "diary" of the problems one homeowner is having with their home. in an ironic twist, i visited a project site that we got a call to perform testing on new fill but apparently the fill...
anyone happen to know a good way to count the number of points within a given area? let's say you have a map of the u.s. and there are 10 areas identified with some overlap. there's say 100 points spread out through all the areas and i want to count how many points fall in each area. you're...
