shell theory and shell elements ?

Hi all, just a precision for me. Is there a limit ratio between legth and thickness to be applied in theory of shell ? Which ratio for part ? Is there a ratio for elements too or is it applied for parts and after we can mesh the part with very small elements ? Thx caviac

    mesh refinements...

HI all, I need some help on a problem that I'm not sure to explain. I have a plate with a rib. I put a normal force to the rib. The finer my mesh will be, the higher the stress I have... I Thought it would stop but no.... I think it's a singularity (perfect sharp angle 90°) but not sure...

    Non linear contacts in IDEAS

Hi all, in the help of Ideas we can see non linear contact management with new contact elements computed at each step, but I don't succeed in realize them...my contact set stay the same in time evolution... What can be the problem knowing that I have check my Solution set was Non linear and I...

how to model screw in assembly?

hi all, do someone know how to model screw in assembly ? A spring, a beam, somthin' else ... and especially in plastic assembly...as screws in Polypropylen assembly ? thanx caviac

    ZAMAK ZA27 fatigue curves

Hi all, I need the Zamak ZA27 fatigue curves to make some calculation about my part resistance. Does someone know where I could find this ? Or better, could someone give me 2 or 3 points of the curve ? Thanks caviac

    Fatigue curves

Hi all, do someone know where I can download some S-N curves for fatigue (Wohler curves) ? Just some examples like one or two steels, one or two aluminium...etc Thanks. Caviac

What are your meshing criteria ?

Hi all, maybe we can make a review of what are our meshing criteria to pass for our kind of FEA ? Just the kind of application (automotive...) and values for distortion, warping, interior angles, ...etc Thanx all. caviac

spotweld, rivets and bolts...what about yours ?

Hi all, could we have some of the solutions you use to modelize spotweld, rivets, bolts ... for the finite element static analysis -as in ANSYS or I-deas...) Thanx all caviac

    materials data on the net

Hi, where can I find general database on material for FEA analysis (plasticity...etc) ? I'm searchin' for aluminiums, steels and plastics. Thx all. caviac

    Ansys LS DYNA Manuals...

In my previous question , in fact I meant that I would like to know where I could find ANSYS LS DYNA manuals ? website with these documents will be helpfull. THX. Caviac

    ANSYS LS DYNA Documentation

Hi all, I would like to know where I can find ANSYS LS DYNA docs ? Not LSTC (that's the same but not the GUI...) Thx Caviac

    shell length...

Hi, I know about thin shell theory (caracteristic length of th part must be > to at least 10 times the thickness...) OK... But, the elements are limited in size ... if you mesh with element shell size of 0.1 a shell part with 2.0 you have a bad ratio between element length and thickness NO ? Is...

    Strain rate...

Hi all, could someone explain me more about strain rate ans dependence in elastic plastic behavior ? I mean, I can have a "sigma max" (stress) changing with strain rate... what is the relation between 'em ? It it for taking into account compression and tensile stress ? Thx .
