    Cimitron questions

Hello, We are a mold building shop. At this time we use Solid works along with CADRA for our designs. SurfCam is used for CAM applications. Recently one of our engineers came in contact with Cimitron and now claims that it is vastly superior to anything we now have. Does anyone have experience...

    Urethane strippers?

We are quoting a piercing die. There will be several holes punched with an extrusion around the hole to take a #10 self tapping screw. my question is: Would urethane strippers work or should we quote this as having a standard steel stripper plate with springs and stripper bolts? The strip is 16...

OK, Here is the "Burning" question..

It seems like all we hear in the design business (dies, Molds) is go to 3d...Such as SW mainly. My question is: What percentage of tool designers are still using 2D Autocad?? And is this working ok for you?? Do you really want to go to 3D?? If you were going to buy a design package/software...

to punch a .375 dia hole....

We are going to design and build a blanking die. If I want to punch a .375 dia hole in the strip, would I use a .375 die opening minus clearance on the punch?

If Solid Works is so good...

Why isn't everyone using it?? I see this issue hashed out quite a bit and people always say to go with SWX.....HOWEVER.... A great many people still use autocad. If I was going to purchase a design package for plastic injection molds and sheet metal dies, which one should I go with?? SWX or Acad?

AC 2002 LT demo on XP-pro....no go

I am considering buying autocad and sent for a demo of AC 2002 LT. When I attempt to load this, my PC ignores it completely. I have XP-pro OS. When I insert the CD, the installation wizard will not respond. I then did the file/run thing...still nothing at all. Any suggestions? Thanks

    2D drawings in SWX?

I'm in the plastic injection mold design business. Many if not most end customers would like to have their molds designed in solid works. My burning question is can you folks design the whole mold with all it's components detailed in solid works only?? Not all mold builders make every component...

    drawing files via email

I design using CADRA and have a customer that uses Mastercam. When I send a drawing, I first do "save as" to IGES, then send it. He gets several views all piled on to each other wherever there is an Origin. What can we do to correct this? thanks, SH

I see Turbo-Cad 6.5 on ebay for less than 20 bux for an unopened version. It talks about 2D and 3D capabilities. Could this be used to design plastic injection molds?

    what is this Physics formula?

We have a plastic injection mold that has a horizontal slide that is hydraulicaly activated. Physical limitations mandate the use of only a small hydraulic cylinder. The hydraulic pressure however, is overcome by the molding pressure when plastic is injected into the cavity, causing the slide to...

is Autocad 2002 LT a complete design package?

I am designing plastic injection molds using CADRA for 2D. I'm considering switching to autocad and happened to spot some for sale on Ebay. One was Autocad LT 2002 described as "new, sealed and registerable"..The price is about $355. I am not familiar with autocad but this seems...
