    Nozzle to Shell Weld

When a ASME code welder welds around a nozzle the angle between the shell and nozzle varies. The fillet weld size called out on the weld symbol represents that weld at a 90 degree angle. But you will not get the same weld throat you at the 90 degree angle when you get around to the 120 or 130...

    Weld Throat

I have a nozzle set through a shell with a full penetration groove weld and a fillet weld to cap it off (see UW-16.1(c). For my UW-16 calculation I have a throat size of .97" (a 1 3/8" fillet weld). How do I measure my throat for this joint? Section 9 has three different definitions of throat...

    Heat Exchanger Pass Partition Confinement

Are there any cases aside from TEMA "R" where it is considered good practice to confine the pass partition on a heat exchanger? i.e. high pressure or high temperature designs Thanks

    Dimensioning

Is it possible to break a view around a dimension? I tried the "Broken View" command but it does not allow me to hide the break lines. Thanks

    Split Reinforcing Pads

Often times a reinforcing pad is used on a pressure vessel nozzle and the pad must be split during the fabrication sequence. Under the rules of the Code must I compensate for a change in joint efficiency of that re-pad due to the long seam which it now has? If so, by x-raying that longseam can I...

    BOM

Is there a way to link the "summary information" from a part (file/properties) to the design table? Basically I want my BOM to list information that is in my design table. Thanks

    SW ANSI Parts Library

Does anyone know a reputable company that I can purchase a library of all ANSI fittings (flanges, reducers, elbows, etc)? Thanks

    Using Excel Files

Is it possible to have SW read a specific excel cell? For instance, if I want my pipe thickness to read excel cell A25 and the pipe diameter to read cell J43. In other words I would like to use one externally linked excel summary sheet to drive multiple part drawings and assembly drawings. Thanks!

    Detailing Drawings

Two detailing questions.. 1.) Is there a way in my solidworks drawing to fix the arrow of a leader line to a part of my model so that when I change my model the leader will "follow the change" and remain attached to the item I want? 2.) Is it possible to mirror hidden lines that my model has...

    Combining Dimensions

Is it possible in a Solidworks drawing to combine dimensions into one leader line? For example: 1.25" DIA. HOLES ON A 25" BOLT CIRCLE In this case the "hole dia" and the "bolt circle" dimension would automatically update as the model changes. Yet they both fall under the same leader line. Thanks

    Drawing Borders to Solidworks

I am in the process of converting my AutoCad border drawing to SW. Just wondering if there is a way to change the WIDTH of my Roman S font once it has been converted to a SW template. Thanks

    Interpretation: VII-1-04-61 Subject: UHX-10(a)

Interpretation VII-1-04-61 states that a no-tubes-in-window (NTIW) baffle design does not fall within the scope of the code for tubesheet calculations on heat exchangers. As a result I must fall back on TEMA for my tubesheet thk calculations, correct? If so, does the same rule apply to...

    Solidworks & Excel

Is there a way to map Solidowrks to an Excel file? In other words, instead of have the drawing read off the design table, use an "outside" Excel file. Thnaks

    Solidworks Assembly & Excel

Does anyone know in a Solidworks Assembly if it is possible to link a "mate" dimension to Excel or Design Table so that I can create a chart? i.e: distance from face to face of two parts. Thanks
