    Using ground floor slab for horizontal forces

    Can you use a ground floor slab to take horizontal forces from columns? Instead of relying on spread footers to resist sliding. Typically I have not because the slab is placed with expansion joints around the columns but I was curious what others do

    Torsion - AISC Design Guide 9 Formulas for Graphs?

    I am working on a Mathcad file for calculating torsional stresses. Looking at AISC Design Guide 9, is there a way to calculate the values in the graphs in Appendix B instead of looking at the graph to come up with the values? Thank you

    Books allowed for SE Exam

    Does anyone who has taken the SE I and II exams know if you can bring the Sructural Engineering Reference Manual to the exams? (ISBN: 978-159126-119-3) It is an open book exam but I understand there are some limitations as well. Any help with this is appreciated.

    Effective length for out of plane pipe bent column

    Pipe bent consists of two columns with three beams (moment connections) between columns. Out of plane it is free (no bracing or tie backs). What is the K factor out of plane? Should I use K=2 like a cantilever or can it be reduced? Thanks for the help
