In the attached excel sheet (interpolation.xls) measured friction factor data are shown as a function of Reynolds. The data are for different packing densities. 30 = lowest packing 80 = highest packing.
As it can be seen the values are strongly decreasing with higher Reynolds number.

I am working for a company which manufactures turbulators to improve the efficency in tubular heat exchangers.
A sketch of those Inserts can be found here:
http://www.calgavin.com/hitran/hitran.htm
Those turbulators induce turbulence near at the tube wall and therefore improve the heat transfer...
I am running a gear pump using a Siemens micromaster FI Inverter.
The gear pump is connected to a 4kW Motor.
The pump is part of a test rig, at times it is required to run the pump at very low speeds/frequencies.
Under this situations from time to time I encounter a FI cut out due to...
We are in the process of purchasing a load cell in order to meassure tension force.
The Excitation Voltage is 10 VDC
and it states Rated Output (R.O.): 3 mV/V nominal
We are interested in the 100 lbs capacity range.
Would that mean at 100lbs my output signal is 10V
How do I have to interpret...
I connected a 3 phase motor of a centrifugal pump (0.75 kW)
After connection it turned the wrong way round.
My connection is the following
W2 ----- U2 ----- V2
U1 ----- V1 ----- W1

Which cables do I need to change in order to change the...
Instead of using control valves in order to control the flow I intend to use Frequency inverters to regulate the motor speed of a centrifugal pump (2.2kW)
With this type of controll I had quiet good experience in the past.
Now my Question: The FI Inverters I intend to use are Siemens...
A stupid Question for a electrical engineer, but it comes from a chemical engineer.
I intend to switch a solenoid valve on/off. To do this I have got a data aquisition module here I can trigger 0 or 10 Volts output.
The solenoid valve I have got is switched by a 24Volt signal
(0 vot closed /...
We are using a gear pump in a research Lap in order to pump thermal oil for a test rig with different rotational speeds.
At high gear speed the sound of the pump motor is quiet loud.
Does anyone know companies which offer sound protections (probably pump encapsulations) in order to reduce the...
We are running pipe equpment with oil.
In short cycles we have to emplty all the oil from the system. After draining we are blowing compressed air through the system. This works well and the remaining oil is emtied. Unfortuatelly it creates a oil mist.
(Not very healthy)
From this we would like...
Currently we are using a positive displacement pump (gear pump) in order to pump viscous oils. We have got some problems with pulsation during pressure drop measurements, which needs to be very accurate, therefore we are investigating whether it is possible to use a different more smoothly...
We intend to measure the pressure drop over a length of 1m vertical pipe in a 44mm ID tube.
Air velocities are up to about 20m/sec.
Pressure is just below atmospheric pressure.
We have got the the devices sorted in order to measure the pressure drop. We are only interested in meassuring the...
We are in the process of setting up a small test rig to meassure tube side pressure drop in gas flows in tubes with internals.
The test tube internal diameter is about 46mm. Before the gas passes this tube it passes annother tube with 16mm internal diameter where the massflow is meassured.
Now...
I am chemical engineer and we need to set up an experimental rig in order to meassure pressure drop in gas flows.
For this purpose we use use a 2.2kW single phase air blower with a constant fan speed and gas flow.
We would like to make this gas flow variable, that means change the motor speed...
I need to measure the differential pressure in an air stream. Because the air velocity is pretty low and therefore the Reynold number my anticipated pressure drop will be in the range from 0.1 to 20 Pa. I was searching on the Internet but was not able to find a convincing device. Does anyone...
I am looking for a proportional control valve. The flow I have to control is quiet low. It has to be controlled in the range from 0 to 10 l/min. From my PID controller I have got a output signal 0 to 10 Volt available. The medium is water like.
I was thinking using a solenoid valve, but I did...
I am in the process of purchasing a pressure sensor to measure differential pressure.
Can someone explain the pros and cons for the different output options. (Especially with respect to accuracy)
The sensor I intend to by has a 2 to 10 V output signal.
Constarins:
- Distance Sensor to data...
I am looking for companies who offer to measure the dynamic viscosity as a function of temperature of liquids.
Does anyone know a company in the U.K. which offers this service?
I am searching for a suitable viscous fluid for heat transfer experiments. The requirements are as follows:
- It has to be Newtonian
- The properties (viscosity, conductivity, heat capacity and density) have to be known as a function of temperature.
- ! dynamic Viscosity at 50°C should be about...
I need to thermal insulate a 90mm diameter pipe, the pipe is abot 3m long. In order to do this I would like to use preformed foam which I only need to slip over the pipe. Armstron armaflex offers such systems for smaler pipe diameters. I an not find any manufacturer of such afoam for bigger tube...
I am looking for insulation Material with low thermal conductivity. It will be used inside a 60mm stainless steel tube as an kind of inlay to reduce the 60mm to a smaller diameter. The Material Properties need to allow for machining, e.g. on a lace or milling machine.
I used Delrin an acetal...
