    Disposing of old metallographic mounts

Just wondering how others dispose of old metallographic mounts? Where I work, we normally just toss them in the trash, but considering the volume of work we have, it seems like an awful lot of metal to be just tossing in a landfill. Can we toss them in with our regular metal scrap? I am somewhat...

    Tube flattening equation

I am trying to calculate the amount of stress imposed at the OD surface of 0.625" dia. tube during a flattening test (ASTM A1016), and then compare it with the stress produced by expanding the tube diameter ~0.015 - 0.030". Any assistance with either or both of these calculations is appreciated.

Carbon Equivalent (CE) of Cast Iron - How Much Effect on Tensile?

How much effect does carbon equivalent have on the tensile properties, ultimate tensile and Young's modulus in particular, of gray and ductile iron? I have read in one paper that for hypoeutectic gray irons (CE of 4.30 or less) tensile strength increases approximately 18.5 MPa for every 0.1%...

    Galling/Seizure of Ductile Iron Shaft

I am investigating a rash of failures that involves a rotating, ductile iron shaft seizing in an aluminum housing. The belt-driven shaft rotates on several cast aluminum journals. Seizure is occurring at the journal closest to the drive belt. Examination shows a galling pattern ~3 or 4 mm wide...
