Good Day,
I have a project to design a multi piece, circular, aluminum track in which a piece of equipment (approx 50lbs) will travel on. The current material is a 6xxx series aluminum that is tempered but uncoated. Manufacturing shop has told me they would like more wear resistance built in to...
What is the history behind limiting heat input to 60kJ/in the welding of stainless steel (TP 304) to prevent sensitization/ maintain corrosion resistance in the as welded condition? Is it related to grain growth or ferrite?
Thank you in advance.
Hello Everyone,
Does ASTM, AWS, or ASME have an official definition of "Burn Through"? I could not find anything in ASME, however I am new to the code in its entirety. I do not have access to the ASTM or AWS specs.
Thank you in advance.
I am trying to find ER309LMo wire certified to AWS/SFA 5.9. I cannot find a single manufacturer that will produce it to the spec. All say N/A on the packages. Does anyone know why?
Can someone please recommend a filler metal for welding X70 grade steel? I am not going to use preheat or post heat treatment. I will also need solid wire in spool form for the GTAW process.
Thanks in advance!
I am curious to know, what affect does molybdenum content have on 300 series stainless when producing autogenous welds? Also, how does the sulfur content and moly content relate to each other and weldability?
Thanks in advance!
Hello,
I am looking for some general information about the passivation process for stainless steel and other nickel alloy pipe/tube. Any info about the process requirements, typical applications, process equipment, ASTM or other specs, how it fits in with the pickling process, etc would be very...
I will be autogenously welding .125" thick CP grade 2 titanium using the GTAW process. The surrounding atmosphere will be purged with 100% argon and cooled to below 800 degrees F before entering the outside atmosphere. The weldment will be post weld heat treated.
My question is: "is it...
I will be autogenously welding .125 in. thick CP grade 2 titanium using the GTAW process. The surrounding atmosphere will be purged with argon. I know that the weld must be cooled to below 800 degrees F before entering the atmosphere. My question is: "is it possible to cool the weld too...
Hello,
I am trying to find any and all info on the passivation of 316 SS. I would think to use Nitric and H2O but I am not sure. The end use of the product (pipe) will be for hydrogen peroxide service. Is there a standard passivation formula for 316SS regardless of application?
Also, would...
Can anyone tell me if filler metal can be used to weld A790 pipe? I cannot find anything in the specs I have. The weld is for 304L, and we are making welded pipe.
Thanks
I can't seem to figure out where occasional slag is coming from. I am continuously welding 321 S/S tube at 40ipm, 50-55amps, and using helium and argon for shielding gas. The slag only appears every 20-40 feet, is sometimes 3-5 droplets or a short soid layer. I am asuming it is contamination of...
I am trying to establish more formal welding regulations and parameters in the shop. Are there any standardized WPS and PQR available? Also, which one needs to be done first before the other one is filled out?
Any advice will be appreciated.
I am having difficulty welding 321 S/S tube without any filler. I am consistantly being told it is due to a new low sulfur content. Also, that the Ti is bonding with another alloy which then becomes a lower eutectic point. The type of defect is porosity along the centerline of the weld. I...
i would like to install a pto driven winch in my truck- (F-350). i would need to make a fixture or mounting unit since the truck did not come with the winch. i was wondering what type of material would be best suited for the job. the winch will be cloce to 20,000lbs single line pull rating...
i would like to install a PTO driven winch on my automatic F-350, the question that comes to mind is; do i need to install a manual tranny? the transfer case does not have PTO installed on it at the moment but can i get the PTO attachment and take the plate off the t-case and insatll it or will...
i have a early 70's aluminum block from a snowmobile. i have no idea what type of Al is used for casting. and i have to weld some stock on the block. i am going use the GTAW process. any helpful tips on what type of aluminum is used for casting or what typr of filler to use would be helpful
i have to weld some stock on a cast aluminum engine block from a snowmobile. i have no idea what type of AL it is or what kind of filler to use. i plan on TIG welding. what types of aluminum are commonly used for this type of casting?
