I am asking this question for PT999 as well as myself. PT999 has posed a similar question at thread507-167093.
Can an existing 15" wide flange erected in 1907 be field welded to a new A992-Gr 50 wide flange?
What material would the 1907 beam be composed of?

Actual 3x12 floor joists at 16" oc for the second floor of a former firehouse wanting to turn restaurant and banquet hall.
Where can I find design values and a reasonable assumption of species for this structure built in Door County, Wisconsin in the year 1907? Keeping in mind, the lumber is...

I recall approximately ten years ago, when a PEMB company (specifically ABC) had changed their rigid frame base plate anchoring from two anchor bolts to four anchor bolts. Apparently for some time, the two were acceptable. I do not recall whether the change was a code requirement or revised...
IBC does not list minimum live loads for mechanical, equipment or display mezzanines. IBC 1606.2 states to include fixed service equipment dead loads.
After equipment loads have been considered, what do you use for overall live loads, for the above specified commercial occupancies?

Is there was a requirement, in IBC, stating that when fastening preservative treated wood sills to concrete foundation, the anchors must be of corrosion-resistant material such as galvanizing or stainless? I thought there was and I cannot find it.
Thank you...
RE: IBC 2306.4.5 I know I've used this table in the past, and I thought that the table represented gypsum used on only one side of wall. Therefore sheathing both sides allows me to double the values. But, I'm not reading this anywhere.
Also, there does not seem to be any reduction factors...
3/4" dia ladders rungs, 3/16 fillet welded all around, each end, to flat bar 3/8 x 3 stringers. The rungs do not penetrate the stringers.
Are the supports a fixed or pinned connection?

In a masonry lintel requiring two or more couses, the bottom course will be composed of bond beam units with horizontal rebar. What about the required courses on top of that? Should they also be bond beam units, common cored units or either, depending on the application?

I am preparing some miscellaneous steel shop drawing details. I want to have a gusset connector plate shop welded to a C12x20.7. AISC 9th gives the average flange thickness, grip and "k" dimension. but what is the actual thickness at the extreme toe end/edge of the flange?

3/4" 48/24 floor sheathing over 1.0C20 metal deck over CFS floor joists bearing on CFS wall. If the joists are (Simpson) tension cross-braced at mid-span, not suseptible to web-crippling and metal deck is fastened to cfs joists and rim track at 12" oc, is there a need to have the joists...
Other than Vulcraft, please direct me to section properties for floor and roof deck that may be published either by AISI, SDI or other reputable inst's, org's, assn's, etc...

I've specified "B" deck for roof applications. Throughout the years, for FLOOR applications, I've seen B-deck specified on various plans from other engineering firms and have had it requested by contractors, due to in-stock convenience I presume. Therefore, not seeing any "red-flags", I also...
Fabricating a rectangular frame with light gage structural C-Sections, 45 degree mitered at corners.
AISC 9th TABLE J2.4 lists a minimum fillet for up "To 1/4 inclusive". Is an 1/8" all-around weld to much for 12 ga material?

RE: NDS
I've often wondered why there is not a value for shear perpendicular to wood.
The tension of the overturning forces of a shear wall, that would be resisted at the sill anchor certainly will cause stress at the sill plate cross section. What kind of force is applied to the sill plate...
