Is there a standard or specification that provides definitions for:
-superseded, supersedes
-replaces
-alternate
-alternate, one way forward
I have a couple of company-specific definitions but would like to find something standard to use.
thanks
Does anyone know of a reliable guideline for selecting fasteners around a magnetic flux valve based on magnetic permeability? The original fasteners that attach an access cover were bronze per AN509 but these are no longer available. MS24694 CRES screws have a magnetic permeability of 2.0, but...
Is there a reference that defines a category for a magnetic permeability of 2.0? I understand the comparison to air=1.0, but it would be helpful if this could be described as "nonmagnetic".
eg: for review of CRES fasteners (MS24694C) to install near to a magnetic flux valve.
Thanks for...
Has anyone run across an aircraft manual that permits replacement of aluminum 6061-T6 hydraulic lines (pressure) with CRES?
Also- would they still use aluminum or steel nuts (eg: AN818-6D)?
does anyone have a good reference on rivet types and installation for old British rivets (eg: AS156, AS161, etc.)? I have the rivet standards but they are somewhat lacking. Same goes for the SRM.
In particular anything that describes the process for normalizing rivets (eg: L37 material)...
Does anyone have a link to old (1940s) British alloy design information? I'm looking for L40 alloy specifically. I believe it crosses up to British Standard L168 (similar to 2014-T6), but would like to get the original mechanical properties if possible.
thanks
we have an insulation blanket used on an aircraft anti-ice duct (eg: bleed air at 550 deg F). The blanket has a layer of aluminum foil between the inside fabric and the glass fibre insulation) that causes problems during manufacture. The foil tends to crease and then tears the inside fabric...
Is it possible to overage (and weaken) 7075 forged material if there is a significant (eg: 2-3 months) delay between solution heat treatment/quench, and artificial aging to T6 condition? AMS 2770J table 7 note 5 indicates that furnace aging can be started any time after quenching, which...
We have a drawing for an aircraft part that uses a 7075 hand forging. The drawing requires it to be rough machined, solution heat treated, quenched, held in the refrigerated state before final machining, and aged to the T6 condtion. This is different from most drawings which require final...
We are looking at the DIN specification to cover cross recessed flat head screws which seems to be referenced as DIN 965-M5X19-A2-70-H. However, when I search the DIN standards (eg: www.IHS.com) DIN ISO 965 refers to the screw thread only.
Is there another "DIN 965" specification to cover...
My appolgies if this is obvious to others, but I can't find any reference in AWS D17.1 for this (in regards to a thin sheet butt or fillet weld AWS D17.1 class B).
Does the inspector typically penetrant inspect both sides of the sheet or only the weld side?
Thanks
We are looking for design allowables on German aluminum alloys 3.2315.71 (AlMgSi1) and 3.1364T351. Does anyone know which document we can purchase that would have the design allowables similar to MMPDS?
Would they be in the ESDU MMDH? EN 485-2?
thanks
I'm looking at fatigue data between casting alloy 356.0-T6 and wrought 7050-T451 plate. The problem is that some sources reference data from axial testing, while others use rotating beam testing.
Is it acceptable to compare data directly between axial and rotating beam fatigue testing? I...
Is there a typical thickness used for chrome plating on pistons for hydraulic actuators? I know QQ-C-320 specifies .002 min if not otherwise specified on the drawing, but I have another design reference that specifies .001 min. Which is more typical for an actuator subject to medium wear or...
