Looking for information on buttering. Welding on carbon steel doing a Overlay of 316 SS. Would it be a good idea to butter first with some 309 SS? Needing to stay within the limits of ASME Section VIII and IX. Any help or Guideance would be appreciated.
Don't really know if this is the best place to post this question but here it goes. Doing a 316 SS overlay onto Carbon steel is it nessisary or required to do a 309 SS overlay for buttering purposes? Tring to stay withint the limits of ASME section 8 and 9 for pressure vessels.

Can someone help me find reference to the welding of 321H SS. ASME code reference would be greatly appriciated. The part being welded is on a large ball valve that has some gaulding on the end plate. If you need more info just let me know what and I will provide.
According to ASME do I need to certify my tack welders as long as all tack weld is removed by machining? If so what section/paragraph states the requirements for it? Thanks
Iam trying to setup a welder qualification program where I work. Is there anyone out there that has done this with good results that would be willing to help? Qualified welders can weld for three years on that qualification I think, it's keeping them all up to date the gets me.
I am a New welding engineer and am having a hard time with the ASME section VIII, IX and MIL codes. Is there anyone that can suggest what I need to do to better understand and better apply these books so I don't feel like I wasted four years of my life in school.
