Hi, does anyone have any experience with the IOREX "piping solution"? They claim it prevents and removes scale, rust, bio-film, etc.
I was just wondering if it works.
Thanks in advance.
Hello all,
We are replacing a bank of elevator cars and their associated controllers, machines, etc. in their entirety.
The elevator machine room is served by several branches off of an existing preaction system which serves a large mechanical room, on the same level as the elevator machine...
Hello all,
Does anyone know why Figure A.7.3.2(d) in Annex A of NFPA 14 2007 shows two hose valves? Paragraph 7.3.2 doesn't require two valves.
Later editions only show one hose valve but here in PA we follow the 2007 edition.
Thanks,
Ken
Hello,
I was doing a punch list for several packaged rooftop units when I came upon this weldolet on the gas piping. WOW!http://files.engineering.com/getfile.aspx?folder=fb184261-a2ad-45d1-9a27-c4a78b5ae223&file=DSC08580.JPG
Hello all,
I saw this pipe during a field visit for an unrelated project. It's a pressure relief off a steam pressure reducing station.
Does anyone know why this vent is piped in this manner? Just curious because I've never seen this configuration before.
Thanks,
Ken
Just noticed.
Associated Air Balance Council certifies individuals as "Test and Balance Engineers" without an engineering degree and exam.
Guess I wasted my time at Drexel to get my EIT and PE.
Hello all,
Can someone tell me the purpose of the 4-inch long vent at the top of the tee where the force main enters the manhole? Please refer to the attached detail.
With the force main pump on, I think there would be sewage flying all around inside the manhole.
Thanks in advance!
Ken
Hello all,
The 2009 International Building Code requires sprinklers in enclosed areas within buildings containing "smoke-protected assembly seating" per Paragraph 1028.6.2.3.
I don't see a requirement for sprinklers in similar areas within buildings containing seating without smoke protection...
Hello all,
We are designing a fire alarm system for an existing campus distribution system. When reviewing the existing drawings for locations of flow and tamper switches, we saw that the existing campus uses a fire pump to serve a combined system...both domestic and sprinkler.
I've never...
On a typical system with an expansion tank, the make-up water line connection point to the chilled water system is the point of zero pressure change. The pressure at this point is the same whether the pump is running or not.
I'm guessing this holds true for a system without an expansion tank...
Hello all,
I have a warehouse, masonry construction, 15 feet from floor to roof deck. A small mezzanine was built for uniform storage, with storage both above and below the mezzanine floor. Plywood "bookcases" are located under the mezzanine floor. The floor is constructed of plywood on...
Hello all,
Does anyone know the purpose of the valve in the attached photograph? Who is the manufacturer?
The owner has no information at all. No tags, no stampings that make sense.
Thanks,
Ken
Hello all,
Does anyone know if there is a on-line, free library where you can access and read (not print or download) the ASME Standards?
Thanks in advance,
Ken
Hello all,
I have a perforated, metal pan ceiling (50% free area)in an office building corridor that requires a wet-pipe, NFPA-13 sprinkler system. There is a thin acoustic pad laying on top of the ceiling. The ceiling and acoustic pad are clearly an obstruction for sprinklers located above...
Paragraph 8.17.1.1 in 2010 NFPA-13 requires a local water alarm for systems having more than 20 sprinklers.
The standard does not appear to define "local water alarm" or its location (e.g. on the exterior of the building).
Anyone know why?
Thanks,
Ken
Hello,
A flow test was performed on a hydrant with one 2-1/2" butt opened. Flow was measured at 990 gpm at 65 psig residual pressure.
A second test was performed on the same hydrant with two, 2-1/2" butts opened. Flow was measured at 850 gpm at 48 psig residual pressure.
Can anyone explain...
New Jersey code requires a solenoid valve (for emergency shut-off) and a check valve on natural gas piping serving classrooms. Can anyone tell me why they require this check valve?
Thanks,
Ken
