Hi all, I though I figured this out, but after the run, it is still displacing incorrectly
I have described a displacement boundary condition on an analytical rigid surface that starts from 0,0 (time(s), disp(mm)) and ends up at 1,-5 using a tabular amplitude. The problem, is at the end of the...
Hi all,
I have described a displacement boundary condition that starts from 0,0 (time(s), disp(mm)) and ends up at 1,-5 using a tabular amplitude. The problem, is at the end of the 1 second dynamic step, the displacement is -5.283 mm not -5.0 mm. Any idea why this is happening or what could...
Hi all,
I need to express Youngs modulus and poisson's ratio as a function of Relative Density in ABAQUS Standard. Any ideas or insights on how to do this?
Thanks,
Chris
Hi all,
I have completed this first part of a forming analysis in abaqus explicit. In the first step a powder bed of 10mm is compacted to 3mm. the assembly consists of a die wall and top/bottom punches. Can anyone suggest how I can create a second step to determine the springback distance...
Hi all,
I am running a modal analysis to extract the natural frequencies. When I plot the deformed shape the first 2 mode shapes appear as expected, but after that they are highly distorted and jagged. Any ideas as to what could cause this? Material properties?
thanks in advance,
chris
Can anyone clue me in on when to use the "Update Reference Configuration" option when creating a predefined field for the initial state? I am trying to get the resonance frequencies of the resulting deformed object. Thanks everyone

Hello all,
I am trying to impose a velocity boundary condition on an analytical rigid surface. I have set the time period to 0.0305 seconds, V2 to -100 (mm/s) and the Smooth step amplitude to (0,1; 0.0305, 1). I am trying to get a displacement for the rigid surface of 3.05 mm, However using...
Hello everyone,
I am trying to transfer the material state at the end of a dynamic, explicit analysis (forming) to a standard static analysis (springback). I am using a modified drucker-prager cap model to account for the nonlinear effects. Is this possible? Also, if the static standard...
Is there a way to add a spring to a compaction analysis and force the analysis to stop when the force in that spring is zero? This would happen as the part being compacted is allowed to relax. All that help on this forum are doing a great job and have taught me so much. Thanks!
Chris
Hi all,
I am in the process of learning to run an import analysis after a dynamic, in order to run a frequency extraction. The problem, is the dynamic step is so complex that the model must be axisymmetric. My question is, can an axisymmetric model be used for a modal analysis or can the...
Hi all,
I am trying to display stress intervals for various time increments in a large deformation problem. I wish to fix the upper and lower limits for the contour values and show how the stress changes from start to end of the dynamic analysis. However, when fixing the stress contours from...
I am simulating a compaction process with a die/punch assembly. It is 2d axisymmetric. The die wall and top and bottom punches are analytical rigid bodies. I have added reference nodes to the rigid bodies and have assigned all boundary conditions to thses nodes. I have also defined a...
hello,
I am trying to save a stress contour animation using the same limits for each frame. However, the range of stresses is so large that nothing appears for most of the frames when I use the same limits. Is there a way to plot the scale in log form so that the contours are apparent for...
I am using the drucker-prager cap model for my elastic plastic analysis. I am compacting a material at 3 mm/s from the initial height of 5 mm to the compacted height of 2mm in 1 second. The nlgeom is on and the half-step residual tolerance is set to 1. I get the following warnings and error...
hello,
i am running a drucker-prager cap model and need to implement a user subroutine to calculate the relative density at every increment. i have the equation for density, D=(m/V)*(1/rho), where V=h*A, A being cross sectional area of the compact and h being the distance between the top...
One final question hopefully. I have selected Relative density for an output option, but when the cap model finishes running and I choose to plot relative density contours, nothing appears. The values are all zero. The stress distribution works and makes sense. Am I missing something to plot...
xerf,
Thank you for all your help. One final question for you if you don't mind, or anyone else. After I run a compaction simulation, is there any way to take the compact and run a frequency extraction so as to compare natural frequencies to the pre-compact?
thanks again,
Chris
Hello,
Thank you for all previous help! The Cap Model ran and the stress distributions make sense. Now, I have a couple more questions. Is there a way to get the Young's modulus and poisson's ratio for the whole compact as well as the distribution. And also, is there a way to plot density...
Hello,
I am trying to run a powder compaction analysis using Standard and I keep getting the following warnings and error. Can anyone help me out with this or give me a good place to look.
***WARNING: THE STRAIN INCREMENT IS SO LARGE THAT THE PROGRAM WILL NOT ATTEMPT
