What is the equation for converting the circular tooth thickness to chordal tooth thickness. I know it is something simple but I cannot find it or remember what it is.
Thanks for any help.

I work in an industry where plain bearings (usually bronze)for low speed high stress applications are used. We have played with both straight grease grooves and helical grease grooves and really cannot see any difference. The straight grooves are much easier to manufacture and therefore more...
After researching a while on the internet, thru Mark's, and Roark's I thought I would ask here if my logic is correct. I need to know the torque holding ability of a bushing press fitted into a bore. I can calculate the implied force from the equation Deflection = (P*L)/(A*E), where deflection...
I was wondering if anyone could tell me the equation to calculate the circular tooth thickness of an involute spline. The Machinery's Handbook has everything but that.
I am designing a drive line that must be threaded. I have a size constraint (maximum)on the diameter that must be used. I have tried to use V-Threads but when I add the stress concentration factor of 2.8 to the calculation my stress is well above allowable. I am looking for stress concentration...
I work on mining equipmet daily and it is a very interesting field. I see fatigue failures that go beyond any textbook could ever tell. If anyone would like to share failures I would be more than interested to share my experiences.
I have a question I am searching an answer for. We make large weldments and are constantly tapping holes for bolts. We calculate the max torque value based on the plate because that is normally the weak link. For lack of better information we use 80% of yield strength for proof stress of the...
