What do you call those little single wires with a socket at each end? The little sockets fit nicely into headers that you find on PCB's. I am trying to search for them on Digi but don't know what to call them. Thanks,

I have a question about a Linux (EXT3) drive that we are using in a 3rd party embedded application, concerning how the 'bad sector' table is stored.
1) I remove the HD from the embedded Linux hardware, remove the Linux partition, run chkdsk and repair bad sectors. I do this because I have no...
I hope this is in the right forum -
We are having an unusual problem with a piece of equipment that uses a 2.5" fixed hard disk drive housed in a small, water and airtight sealed enclosure. Prior to sealing, we purge the entire enclosure of air using tetrafluoroethane. (Commonly available in...

I don't have enough practical experience with video compression to answer this question so I'll ask you guys. I'm trying to spec out a video capture system running on a Pentium 738 (Pentium M 1.4GHz, Low Voltage) embedded computer system. It has "framegrabber" cards integrated that use the...
I'm looking to send a baseband(I think this is the term - It is a standard NTSC security camera) video signal over a short run of about 5ft. DC power and Audio will also be running along the same length and I was looking to just use a single ribbon cable (28AWG) rather than source a composite...
Hello -
I am making some multiheaded cables - Basically a 10 pin connector at one end and about 7 different connectors on short lengths of cable branching out at the other end. They are small quantity so custom molding is probably out of the question.
Does anybody know of any way to...

I have a H-250 military handset and am having problems figuring out how to bias the microphone properly. The sound is very faint coming from the mic. Does anybody know what the proper bias voltage is for microphones in military handsets? Or what mic voltage is provided on military...
I would like to use this MOSFET-based relay to switch power on and off to small electronics and have a couple questions. Please let me know if any of this is unclear... http://www.irf.com/product-info/datasheets/data/pvn012.pdf
1) It shows a 4.5A load current capability but it doesn't appear to...
I've seen adapters that convert an IDE socket to a CompactFlash socket so that you can do a solid state boot on a PC, but does something exist that will convert it the other way? I'm looking to attach a laptop drive to a CompactFlash device in order to up the storage capability. For example, I...
Hello all- I am considering using a BGA packaged module for the first time and was wondering if any of you guys had any experience with making the pcb's for these. It is an 11x11 array with 2.5mm spacing. The other option for the module is a surface mount board-to-board connector, but it is...
Hello -
I am using a LM324 op amp to amplify an unbalanced signal and am getting a large amount of hum. I suspect this is due to the power source for the op-amp because when we take the op-amp out of the loop and listen to un-amplified audio, it sounds fairly clean. Perhaps the power noise is...
I am looking for the simplest way to solve a problem I am having with a microphone circuit. I am powering a microphone (not the one attached to the handsfree earpiece) using a cellphone headset jack. My problem is I am getting a very faint microphone audio signal. The microphone needs a bias...
Hello again -
You guys were so helpful on the last question so I have another problem that I am curious about.
Short Description:
I am running rs-232 signal over a 50 ft length of cable (28AWG ribbon, shielded). I am also running power (12V, ~1A) and ground, each over 3 of the 28AWG wires...
At my wits end here. I must be missing something incredibly basic. Thanks in advance.
I have wired up a simple non-inverting opamp circuit to a LM324A. I have a 10k potentiometer connected across the inverting input and output of the opamp, and a 2k resistor between the inverting input and...
I have 8 audio channels that I would like to multiplex together (4 headsets from cell phones, 2 channels per headset (speaker/mic)). Only one cellphone will be operating at a time, so it will be more like a switch.
Would it be electrically sound if I simply connected all the outputs(earphone)...
